facebook.com“I was working with a single mom who desperately needed to have summer programming for her three children. She was completing UBC coursework and working full-time/night shifts in the summer. She did not have the capacity for child care while at work and her children were not yet responsible or old enough to be left alone for the summer months. While there are many wonderful programs available in the community, there really wasn’t any program that could meet the needs of her work schedule as she did not have the capacity to schedule her work hours or have the transportation to take her kids to a program. Fortuitously, that was when I received an email from KidSafe Project that changed the bleak outlook of a summer without activities for this family. When I first learned about KidSafe, I was incredulous that there was an accessible, no-cost program that I could ensure that at-risk children like these could access! Then, I was even more amazed when I learned about their Engaged Outreach Services, which would help this single mom pick up and drop off her kids from home to Kidsafe–one more barrier lifted for this family. Kidsafe was able to accommodate this family and provided a fabulous summer for the kids who couldn’t wait for the following summer to go again.” - Youth and Family Worker at a KidSafe Elementary School Come out to the Crofton House Winter Bazaar on Nov. 18 to support this cause. It’s there and it’s not gonna disappear no matter what you do. So you have to live with it and figure out how you can make it a little more comfortable to a spot that is good for you."
What a wonderful opportunity it was to hear from Bloomberg TV Canada anchor Amanda Lang speak at Crofton House about the beauty of discomfort.
