The Ferret Aid Society
Description
For more than 15 years, the Ferret Aid Society has provided a safe “stop-over” for ferrets on their way to a forever home. Most ferrets come to us either sick, malnourished or near death. We are a “no kill” shelter which means we never allow our ferrets to be put to sleep because they’re old, if we’re overcrowded or if they are diseased or ill and we can medically treat them. We rely on the donations of animal lovers to keep us running, and you’re always welcome to adopt one of our babies.
The shelter is run on a volunteer basis and has no paid employees. We don’t get any outside funding, even though we are a registered “not for profit” organization.
Our shelter officially opened it’s doors to ferrets in Oct 1996. Lucky was our first successful rescue ferret. He came from a local Animal Pound where he was only hours away from being killed. Lucky is now happily living in B.C. with his new owner.
We love and treat all the ferrets who come into our doors as if they were our own. It’s hard sometimes to see them go, but the good part of it is that we always know that they are going into a loving home with people who will love them as much as we did.

Trinity is being introduced for the first time to raw duck at her lovely foster home! Ferrets are obligate carnivores, so supplementing their diet with meat is always a treat for them! The kids are often taken home for a few weeks from the shelter by our loving volunteers, in order to keep them familiarized to a home. Little Trinity is a trooper and is doing wonderfully knowing that there are so many people looking out for her!

To say that she will happily listen, empathize and learn tricks is an understatement- this lady is just begging to be the centre of somebody's world! Adoptable Ferret of the Week: Leah! Leah is a young, small albino girl who came to us in August of this year. She is about 1-2 yrs old. During a heatwave a local cyclist happened upon a white ferret leisurely wandering up a bike path. The cyclist did not catch the ferret, but instead posted a video online on social media. Our volunteers were able to form a search party in the area and rescued Leah, who was found to be anemic due to being kept in heat, dehydrated, and suffering from a uterine infection. We have spayed and treated Leah for her infection, she appears now to have beaten the infection and is well! Leah has developed into a sweet little attentive animal. Leah is very active during her run times. She loves being picked up, although I think its more to get to higher places. She will hiss to get attention, she will stand up and try to climb your leg, all the while hissing away. Once picked up she snuggles down and the hissing stops. With a lot of work she has gotten used to people and being handled and actively seeks people out for treats! Now she's grown a beautiful new coat, white, fluffy and clean. This new lady has a new attitude and a determination to find a home! For more information please visit: http://ferretaid.org/ferrets/leah/

A happy ferret mom sent us an update on two lovely bundles of energy that we all got know very well! "Stavros and Talisker have settled in and seem to be happy. They have the run of the house during the day and have decided that the oven drawer is their favorite nap spot. We are pretty sure that Stavros is deaf but this doesn't seem to bother him. I had forgotten how much I loved having furballs around and would have more if I thought I could get away with it lol! We are all quite happy and enjoying each others company!" - K. F. Thank you for adopting them, and giving them the loving home they very much needed! We wish your family all the best! - FAS Volunteers!
