Midland Cultural Centre
Description
Art - Music - Theatre - Events- On-site Cafe - all in one outstanding building - located in downtown Midland, ON The Midland Cultural Centre (MCC) is unique in Ontario, combining visual arts, performing arts, community programming and culinary arts. A wonderful gift to the community, the centre was funded by philanthropic donations, primarily from the Weber Foundation and also from community organizations. The beautiful building design features clean lines and light-filled spaces. The MCC opened its doors in June of 2012.
The Midland Cultural Centre boasts many performance and event spaces. Rotary Hall Theatre and the Atrium Stage host a diverse range of cultural and community programming, musical programming and celebrations. The Centre’s community based programs such as A Day in the Life (prominent Canadians in conversation) and the Written Word (literary programming presented in cooperation with the Midland Public Library), the Tiffin Bay Folk Club, the Songwriters Showcase, Open Mic Saturdays, Blues Music series and the Roots Music series continue to grow in popularity. From classical music concerts to folk, country, blues, roots, rock and kid themed concerts, the MCC is home to a growing pool of local, national and international talent.
Quest Art School + Gallery and the Huronia Players Community Theatre are intrinsic partners to the Midland Cultural Centre and their gallery, rehearsal and performance spaces are housed in the building. Quest Art consists of upper and lower galleries that hang a variety of curated art shows. These exhibits attract hundreds of visitors to the Centre each month. Two classrooms for workshops and art instruction greatly enhance both art appreciation and artistic endeavours in our communities. The Quest Art gallery shop is filled with unique items designed by local artisans. Huronia Players Theatre is a 121 seat community theatre with state of the art sound and lighting design. Now in it 52nd year, this thriving theatre company produces 3 - 4 stage productions annually as well as hosting youth drama programs, summer camps and theatrical educational experiences.
The Cafe Roxy in the MCC’s Atrium space presents marvellous lunch specials and baked goods and is fully licensed. Our chefs have appeared on national television and won local culinary awards. The MCC is a member of Simcoe County Farm Fresh (a community organization advocating local food and farmers) and our culinary team believes in creating gourmet dishes that celebrate the season and daily specials that spotlight what’s fresh and local.
More than 100 volunteers are at the heart of the Midland Cultural Centre. The volunteers work at our Box Office and information desk, serve as waiters, tour guides, ushers, coat checkers, event set up and tear down personnel and serve on our Board and Committees. Together with our four full time staff and talented in-house chef, our volunteers take great pride in the MCC and their part in growing and promoting the Centre within the community and within the region.
We hope you'll stop by soon to say hello and attend a performance, a workshop, a concert, a meal, an art show or to take a tour of the building. There’s something for everyone at the MCC.
