The most important thing I have ever written.

This is the latest article from Coach Taylor. And probably the most important thing he has ever written. The fitness industry has some issues to be sure but there is an underlying set of problems that are truly at the heart of the failure of fitness. Taylored Training is always evolving, growing, and doing everything that we can to change the world of health and fitness for the better. It is a winter wonderland out there!!!! Make sure to take care of yourself as we dig out! Keeping strong and fit all the time is the best way to make sure you can handle the demands of winter. One of our favorite training tools is the kettlebell. And the kettlebell swing is probably the single greatest exercise you can master to ensure that you do not injure yourself shovelling snow or even during a slip and fall. Being physically strong is also important for the adventurous among you who are out sledding whatever hill you have access to! Remember to keep your back straight and use your hips and legs to lift and throw snow. Yes - there is technique to it! You can see proper technique in the attached video! DO NOT hunch your body - that is a surefire way to put yourself at serious risk for lower back injury!!!!!! Get off the Fitness machines and Change your life. - Taylored Training

We very strongly believe that fitness machines should be melted down and the metal used for other things. All those gyms filled with row after row of machine contraptions that look like a medieval torture chamber need to change their ways! Why? Take a look at this blog, especially the photos. Picture after picture of our members doing 'stuff' - you know - regular, typical things that you might do on any given day. Guess what? They are all things with weird angles, loads, weights, and directions. None of them are perfectly aligned, stright, properly balanced exercises. You know, the way those machines train you. Not to mention how important it is to train the stabilizers (all the muscles that support your big muscle groups during movement - which don't do anything when you're on a machine) in order to keep your body fit and healthy! How You SHOULD Be Doing Lunges

We have been getting TONS of questions about lunge form - a lot of people seem to think they are dangerous or that they put undo stress on the joints, particularly the hip and knee. If you can walk around, you can do lunges. More than that, if you can walk around, you SHOULD be doing lunges. They are a fantastic exercise and great for building strength in addition increasing mobility and coordination. Here is a quick video talking about the proper form for this awesome compound exercise and some of the things you can do to make them safe and über effective!!!
