Let’s #GETLOUD for Mental Health Week! Our integrated Mental Health & Addictions team at the Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton Kent (CMHA LK) are showing their support for Mental Health Week by shining green! Along with our partner organization CMHA LK, we have championed reduced wait times for mental health services in the community through an integrated mental health and addictions service. In honour of National Volunteer Week, we are recognizing the professional and compassionate support from Kara. After joining CKHA as a volunteer in 2016, Kara reflected on her time in a hospital setting compared to her past volunteer experiences. “You’re going to see a lot of people in different stages of life. It’s important just to accept what they can and can’t do and be there when they need you – because you don’t know what they’re going through. It’s good to be that person that they can kind of rely on, whether it’s just sending them to the right counter or escorting them to different parts of the hospital.” You can find Kara at the Information Desk were she represents that positive and friendly smile of the volunteers who help patients and families navigate the hospital and answer general questions. Thank you Kara for your time here at CKHA!

CKHA Today - April 28 marks the National Day of Mourning across Ontario - a day when we remember and honour those who have died, been injured or become ill on the job. CKHA held a ceremony in the Chapel at the Chatham Campus to reflect on the day and remember those killed or injured in the workplace. Across the province, advocates in our hospitals, schools, businesses, government and communities continue to work hard everyday to ensure we have healthy and safe workplaces. Since 2003, injuries per worker in Ontario have dropped by more than 50 per cent, making our workplaces the safest in Canada and among the safest in the world. Despite these efforts, workers still tragically continue to lose their lives or suffer injuries or illnesses on the job. The government of Ontario has made a commitment to building a culture of prevention and work alongside labour, businesses and communities to achieve safer workplaces. When our loved ones leave for work, they must come home safely at the end of the day.

CKHA is celebrating National Volunteer Week and would like to recognize the dedicated support of Bidhi. With 9 years at CKHA, Bidhi has instilled a tradition of volunteering within his family. “My kids when they were young, in high school, they volunteered here. My two daughters… one is now a doctor and the other is a nurse. And my wife volunteered at the St. Joseph Hospital (original site). We like volunteering here, it’s in our blood.” You can find Bidhi in Ambulatory Care guiding patients and assisting staff and physicians with their daily appointments. We'd like to thank Bidhi for making a positive impact within our organization and here in Chatham-Kent.
