Welcome to the official Facebook page for Downtown Carleton Place. What a BIA does...

The principal function of Downtown Carleton Place is to improve business in an area defined by a geographic location. In addition to beautification projects throughout the area, BIA taxes are spent on specific marketing, advertising and promotional campaigns to promote the area.

The Initiatives of the Downtown Carleton Place:

• Design project
• Awareness and support of various community organizations
• Organize and finance Special Events
• Increase directional signage
• Purchase, install and maintain seasonal decorations

The value of BIA’s is precisely that they provide a mechanism for organizing and financing programs that would not be available to independent business people or by any other means.

The Book Gallery's Steve Hamilton was on CBC Ottawa Morning Show this morning, talking about closing the book on a Carleton Place institution. The Book Gallery, which opened 27 years ago, has been hit hard by declining sales. Read the story and listen to the interview at the end of the story. It is obvious that Steve is very emotional about the closing and talking about the owner, Grant Purdy. The store is currently selling off thousands of titles, and the building itself will be sold as well, with profits used to fund the cost of long-term care for Purdy. Please go in and show your support. #Shoplocal
