Are you aware that at night a driver travelling at 55 mph would fail to see a pedestrian on the right side of the road in time to avoid collision 45% of the time. If the pedestrian is standing to the left, the number grows to 95%. The driver will almost always hit the pedestrian who is standing to their left. It has to do with the driver's sight line and the direction headlights point (to the right side of the road in order to avoid blinding an approaching driver).
