Provincial Library System Up and Running - Wheatland Regional Library Release Saskatchewan public libraries are once again able to share materials between different library agencies. This service, which has been in place for decades, allows Saskatchewan residents to access thousands of books, DVDs and more from across the province and have it delivered right to their local library branch. Effective Monday morning, the full “One Card, One Library” service is operating again. Patrons can place holds on the entire online catalogue as well as pick up and drop off materials at any library in Saskatchewan. The ability to borrow items from across the province had to be closed off as a result of funding cuts in the province’s 2017 budget. When funding was restored on April 24, libraries were once again able to support province-wide use of the system. Libraries have a rich and well-documented history of helping build strong, healthy communities, and they are particularly important during economic downturns. Wheatland Regional Library is thrilled to continue to provide learning and literacy opportunities to anyone, regardless of location, age, income, education, or social status. Wheatland Regional Library thanks the tireless work of our patrons in advocating for the library over the past month. We are grateful for the provincial government’s decision to reinstate our resource sharing grant for the 2017 fiscal year. Library stakeholders across the province will be working in the months ahead to review the system and determine whether changes or improvements can be made.
