Volunteer Grants 2016 | Department of Social Services, Australian Government
Did you know your volunteer group may be eligible for a grant for first aid training? Training for volunteers can be funded from Volunteer Grants from the Federal Department of Social Services (DSS). Your organisation or community group can apply for a grant and use the money to help your volunteers learn new skills or obtain qualifications needed for their volunteering work. The value of the grants ranges from $1000 to $5000. The kinds of courses that can attract funding include mental health, first aid, leadership, communication skills, governance, and working with vulnerable people. Preferred courses are those that are recognised at a state or national level, and that lead to a Statement of Attainment, Certificate or Diploma. Be aware that there are some restrictions, and eligibility conditions apply. For example, training that has already been paid for from other sources is ineligible. Grants cannot be applied for to provide training for paid staff, or for members, participants and clients of your organisation or community group. And grant money cannot be used to pay for training materials, travel to and from training, and venue hire. The current funding round closes on 20 December 2016, so visit the DSS Volunteer Grants website https://www.dss.gov.au/grants/grants/funding-open-for-application/volunteer-grants-2016 to check you eligibility and to apply for a grant. We can provide a range of first aid, workplace health and safety, and construction and industry courses for your volunteers.
