Christmas is nearing quickly, so, before I let you know what we are offering for our last bake of the year this Saturday, Dec 17, 2016, Tom, Emily and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you whole-heartedly for your wonderful support this year. It has been a great pleasure, as well as lots of fun, to bake for you every fortnight, and we really hope that you have enjoyed our cakes, breads and cookies as much as we have enjoyed making them! This Saturday, we will have our rustic sourdough ($8/loaf), multi-grain ($7.50) and walnut ($7.50) breads, and a sourdough baguette ($5/stick). The loaf this week will be the very popular lemony lemon loaf cake (large $10.50, small $6.50), with or without blueberries. Given that Christmas is just around the corner, we are offering a range of tarts, including a baked cheese cake tart with raspberries, an apple crumble tart with lemon zest & cinnamon, as well as a rhubarb, apple & orange crumble tart ($16). As always, if you could please send your orders through by Wednesday night, that would be great, as it helps us with the planning – many thanks! Please, note that our next bake will be on January 14, 2017! We wish you a wonderful Christmas! Christine, Tom and Emily PS. For all new-comers to the mailing list: We deliver around Uraidla and Summertown from 7 am on Saturday morning; just leave a basket together with the correct money outside your front door. If you live further away, please, let us now when ordering, and we can work something out.

Tom used to make bread using a variety of wattle seeds from around Alice. Perhaps, we should give this a go again at The Little Uraidla Bakehouse

It's been so busy in Em's Kitchen! Emily will be at the Uraidla Market tomorrow, so, if you are around, come along, say hello and perhaps get some of Emily's scrumptious cookies. In addition to offering individual cookies, Emily has also packaged them to make lovely little gifts. Plus, she now also has a range of gluten- and nut-free cookies!

Wow, what a fantastic community get-together at the Uraidla Cherries and Berries Picnic yesterday – I hope many of you had as much fun there as we did enjoying everything that was on offer and the fantastic atmosphere! We are baking again this Saturday, Dec 3, 2016, including our rustic sourdough ($8/loaf), multi-grain ($7.50) and walnut ($7.50) breads, and a sourdough baguette ($5/stick). The loaf cake this week will be an old favourite - the pear & lemon myrtle cake (large $10.50, small $6.50), while the tart on offer is a new creation - a morello cherry & rhubarb tart ($16). As always, if you could please send your orders through by Wednesday night, that would be great, as it helps us with the planning – many thanks! Also, a reminder that we are taking orders for our German Christmas Stollen, either with home-made marzipan or with quark (large (600g) - $15, medium (400g - $11) until Dec 10, 2016. And finally, Emily will be at the Uraidla Market this Sunday, Dec 4, offering her variety of cookies, including a new gluten-free line! She’d love to see you. PS. Christmas is approaching fast, and so we will soon be baking our popular Stollen, a traditional German Christmas cake or 'bread', again. Our Stollen is deliciously moist and includes citrus peel, rum-soaked sultanas, orange & lemon zest, almonds and wonderful spices. It keeps for many weeks. We offer two varieties, one with our own, home-made marzipan, and the other with biodynamic quark from Paris Creek, and they come in two sizes (the larger one weighs approx 600 g ($15), and the smaller one approx 400 g ($11)). Em's Kitchen will also be cranking up production of her very tasty cookies, which she will sell individually ($1.50), or in bags of 4 ($5), and which make beautiful little gifts. The varieties are her signature (nut-free) bear cookies (or alternatively topped with sprinkles or M&Ms), white chocolate & hazelnut and dark chocolate & almond. And .... bear cookies are now also available gluten-free! If you would like to enjoy any of these treats this Christmas, we are inviting orders from now until December 10. Also, please, feel free to get in touch with any questions that you may have.

It really is hard to believe that the heavens haven’t run out of water yet, after all the rain we have had. But we haven’t given up hope that there may eventually be some sunshine that stays for summer… Until then, if it is any consolation, I can tell you that we are baking again this coming Saturday! We will make our rustic sourdough ($8/loaf), multi-grain ($7.50) and walnut ($7.50) breads, and a sourdough baguette ($5/stick). We have also been creative, so, we can offer a brand new cake - a morello cherry loaf with some special ‘zing’ provided by the addition of kirsch-schnaps distilled by my family in Germany (large $10.50, small $6.50). Needless to say, the taste-testers loved it! As always, if you could please send your orders through by Wednesday night, that would be great, as it helps us with the planning – many thanks! PS. For all new-comers to the mailing list: We deliver around Uraidla and Summertown from 7 am on Saturday morning; just leave a basket together with the correct money outside your front door. We are baking again this Saturday morning! We will make our rustic sourdough ($8/loaf), multi-grain ($7.50) and walnut ($7.50) breads, and a sourdough baguette ($5/stick). The first elderflower blossoms have occurred on our bushes, so the loaf cake this week will be a raspberry and elderflower loaf cake (large $10.50, small $6.50). We are also offering a berry tart (gooseberries, silvan berries and blueberries) with butter crumble ($16) this weekend. If you could, please, send your orders through by Wednesday night, that would be great, as it helps with our planning – many thanks! Also, a little bit of advance notice – Christmas will be here before we know it: We will be making our German Christmas Stollen (with or without home-made marzipan) again this year, and we will be calling for orders shortly. Have a great week everyone! PS. It has been 10 years this month that we have been baking for our wonderful, local community, initially under “Christine’s cakes”, offering our home-made cakes based on old recipes from Christine’s family in Germany at the monthly markets in Stirling and Uraidla. Our love of good, wholesome food and Tom’s background in farming, but also his cooking around campfires when tour-guiding in the centre of Australia, led Tom to explore making a range of breads, inspired by the wonderful breads that he so much admires in Germany. And more recently, our daughter, Emily, has joined us baking scrumptious cookies following a recipe from her Oma in Germany and offering these at the Uraidla Market under “Em’s Kitchen”. The diversity of these activities led us to renaming ourselves “The Little Uraidla Bakehouse” earlier this year. 10 years is a reason to celebrate and also to thank you all for your wonderful support in our endeavours and your enthusiasm for all our offerings - we really appreciate that! We have thoroughly enjoyed this experience and have met so many wonderful people, many of whom have become dear friends. We hope to continue to bake for many more years.
