facebook.com100 Years Ago … Over 100 years ago, long before science began warning us to consider our ‘carbon footprints’, Ellen White, the founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Health Reform Movement, gave this advice on how we should get our nutrition … “Those who eat flesh are but eating grains and vegetables second hand; for the animal receives from these things the nutrition that produces growth. The life that was in the grains and vegetables passes into the eater. We receive it by eating the flesh of the animal. How much better to get it direct, by eating the food that God provided for our use.” Ministry of Healing p.313, 1905. It’s no wonder that White is the most translated woman author in history, and the most translated American author of either gender (170 languages and counting!).
High Protein Snacks Looking to increase your protein intake but wanting to avoid the saturated fat and cholesterol found in all animal-based proteins? Try these beauties, (The recipe makes about 10 x 45g satisfying mouthfuls) Protein Energy Bites 1 cup of pitted dates (halved to make sure there are no seeds) 2 Tbs water ¾ cup walnuts ¼ cup sunflower seeds 1 cup almond meal 3 Tbs raw cacao powder 1 pinch of Celtic sea salt 1 tsp vanilla (a little extra water if the mixture is dry) Extra almond meal or cacao powder for rolling Place the halved dates in a ceramic or glass bowl with the 2 Tbs water. Microwave for 60 seconds. Blend all the other ingredients in a food processor then add the dates and water, and process until the mixture starts to form a large sticky ‘ball’. Roll into balls – the size is up to you. Roll the balls in the extra almond meal or cacao powder and refrigerate.
Your Choice Matters Every day, every choice you make matters. You doubt? Read on. According to recent research (see links to papers below), each day a person who eats a 100% plant-based diet makes the following contributions to our planet: ✓ Saves 4,164 litres of water ✓ Conserves 20kgs of grain ✓ Spares 30 square feet of forested land ✓ Emits 9kgs less CO2 gas …. every day! A UK study, “Dietary greenhouse gas emissions of meat eaters, fish-eaters, vegetarians and vegans” stated that producing a kilo of beef releases 68.8kgs of CO2 into our atmosphere, whereas producing a kilo of beans only produces 0.8kgs of CO2. That’s 86 times less CO2 emissions completely based on personal, daily choices. The National Soy Research Authority recently stated in their paper “Soy Benefits”, that you can produce 15x more protein on any given area of land with plants rather than animals. And it takes over 15,000L of water to produce a kilogram of beef compared to just 930L to produce a kilogram of tofu….so get into our Cambodian Sweet Potato and Tofu Curry! Hi Lovelies, We hope the Holiday Season has been kind to you all and given you lots of opportunities for relaxation and recuperation! If you feel like you've fallen off the wagon as far as healthy choices go, don't be hard on yourself. Just make your next choice a better choice and pretty soon you'll find yourself back into the habit of healthy eating. And we are here to help you, of course. You will remember us saying that our first day for pickups and deliveries will be Wednesday the 18th of January. This is still a couple of weeks away but we realise we need to give you time to order, so here's our updated Summer menu: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You will notice we have dropped a couple of menu items and replaced them with some exciting new meals: * Mild Green Thai Curry - The gentle hint of lemon grass, ginger and lime makes this dish outstanding in its delicious authenticity! Fresh green beans, tofu slices, slivers of carrot and hearty mushroom chunks in a mild coconut-based green curry sauce. Served with a side of brown basmati rice. * Veggie Cutlets & Steamed Garden Vegetables - Two crispy vegetable fillets lightly fried in Australian extra virgin olive oil served with a sachet of creamy vegan tartar sauce. Accompanied by a generous serve of mixed vegetables, lightly steamed to ensure no nutrients are lost. (Some of you may remember these delicious Cutlets from the Celebration Foods Cooking demonstration we did back in November.) For fans of Creamy Mushroom & Lentil Hotpot and Pumpkin & Cauli Satay, fear not, we will have a few meals still available if you desperately need them. These yummy meals will resurface in future menus. We will also be adding some new Healthy Sweets options soon. Here is a drink you will wow your guests with for christmas or simply a light refreshing drink to have christmas morning as you prepare lunch for the family. We love it!! hope you do to. Orange Strawberry Dream Serves 3-4 250g strawberries, hulled (fresh or frozen) 1 litre fresh orange juice (Berri or Nudie brands are best for this recipe) 1 tsp vanilla Juice of half a lemon (optional) Blend all ingredients until smooth. Enjoy immediately.
Hi Lovelies, We would like to thank you so much for allowing us to prepare meals for you over the last few months. Honest Goodness Delivered has kept us very busy, but we are enjoying the challenge, knowing we are providing our friends with tasty, healthy food. As we have mentioned already, we will be taking a 4 week break over the year-end so we can get away on family holidays. Does your sweet tooth start yelling for appeasement most afternoons? While eating between meals isn't a habit we encourage, if you must have something, grab a smoothie. Unlike other afternoon sips, its caffeine free so it wont give you disturbed sleep later on. Make a "Mean Green" at brekkie time and pop the second serving in the fridge for later in the day. THE MEAN GREEN 2 pears, washed and cored 2 kiwi fruit, peeled 3-4 small kale leaves 2 cups coconut water 1 tsp chia seeds Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy :)
