Swim study reveals a smart pool of talent

EARLY YEARS AQUATIC EDUCATION LINKED TO ADVANCED DEVELOPMENT. According to ground breaking research by Griffith University, children that swim demonstrate more advanced cognitive and physical abilities than their peers. The findings of a four-year project by the Griffith Institute for Educational Research, Laurie Lawrence’s Kids Alive Swim Program and Swim Australia have surpassed expectations and indicate that swimming children have many advantages when starting school. “While we expected the children to show better physical development and perhaps be more confident through swimming, the results in literacy and numeracy really shocked us,” lead researcher Professor Robyn Jorgensen said. “The children were anywhere from six to 15 months ahead of the normal population when it came to cognitive skills, problem solving in mathematics, counting, language and following instructions.” For further information follow the links below - https://app.secure.griffith.edu.au/news/2013/08/13/swimming-a-smart-move-for-children/ http://kidsalive.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/2013-EYS-Final-Report-30-July-13-JM.pdf
