North Region SA State Emergency Service
Description
Call 132 500 for SES assistance during a flood or storm. For life-threatening emergencies call Triple Zero (000). This page is not monitored 24/7. The State Emergency Service (SES) is a volunteer emergency service organisation which gives immediate assistance during emergencies and disasters. We also provide community response to 'day to day' incidents such as vehicle accidents, searches, cliff rescues, flood and storm damage situations and any other incidents that might require rescue or search services.
The North Region covers the Mid North, Yorke Peninsula, Flinders Rangers, North and North West Pastoral, Outback, Clare Valley, West Coast and Eyre Peninsula areas of South Australia. That’s a rough area of over 900000 square kilometres or approximately 91% of the State.
To provide an emergency response to the communities in this area 24 hours a day, seven days a week we have volunteers based in 32 Units at strategic locations and 6 Community Response Teams. These Community Response Teams help us combat the challenge of servicing some of the remoter areas of the State by providing a first response to incidents while support comes from Units further away.
The SES also cooperates closely with other statutory emergency services and has storm and flood relief as responsibilities in State legislation. As the Hazard Leader and Control Agency for extreme weather in South Australia, the SES aims to increase community awareness and preparedness relating to extreme weather events. A well prepared community is better able to respond to and recover from an emergency.

As Alf Stewart from Home and Away’s Summer Bay SES Unit, actor Ray Meagher has come to know a fair bit about the amount of commitment, skill and community spirit it takes to be an SES volunteer. On May 10, you can join Ray in thanking the diverse members of the SES right across Australia by wearing something orange to show your support for their efforts – you’d be a flamin’ galah not to! #ThankYouSES #WOWDay
