Motu is a beautiful boutique salon offering personally tailored services for the hair, face and body to women, men and children.
Motu provide full hair services, makeup for all occasions including wedding parties, spray tans, tinting and waxing with a full beauty menu soon to be added. The boutique interiors are fresh, stylish, and unique and the team aspire to create a tropical escape experience for you when you enter, and have you feeling pampered as you step out.

The team is lead by Motu Owner and Manager Kristal Sawtell.

Kristal began her journey in the Hair industry more than 15 years ago in Mossman Sydney before shifting into Fashion Styling and Management where she continued to excel in her field for over 10 years. During this time Kristal worked in Sydney’s prestigious Queen Victoria Building at CUE managing the space and succeeding to lead her staff to be the number one store in Australia in sales.
Motu will offer professional makeup services with Kristal as she completed her makeup artistry training with Napolean Makeup Academy and applied this knowledge to cater to women attending events in Sydney during her days off in the fashion industry.
Kristal’s experience in the fashion and makeup industries has gained her the ability to choose colours and shapes in fabrics and makeup best suited to skin tone, hair and eye colour. These skills are now applied to her clientele at Motu to ensure the perfect look for each individual.

On days off Kristal likes to spend time outdoors with her young family at the beach and the Newcastle Farmers markets. Socialising with her girlfriends over good food and wine and the odd spot of shopping are occasional treats that are equally enjoyed.


Motu ‘s Senior Stylist is Summer Velasquez.
Summer has 19 years in the hair industry managing multi-site salons in the Newcastle Area.
Summer’s experience has gained her the knowledge and skills to cater to all that Motu’s clientele desire from classic cuts and colours to on-trend cutting edge looks.

Summer is a Mum to two children whom she loves spending time with especially at the beach. Summer enjoys listening to music, enjoying wholesome healthy foods and fitness.

Motu choose to use Australian owned CPR products that use advanced natural technology and are sulphate free, paraben free, no added salt, and never tested on animals.
