WIWA Music and Media Maningrida
Description
The Wíwa Project is part of Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation, in support of the continuation of Indigenous Language & Culture thru the Creative Arts.
The Wiwa Project is a community arts development initiative. A multimedia and music hub run through Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation and Remote Jobs in Communities Program.
We have a great facility with professional gear, multimedia equipment, a full recording studio, music room full of instruments and a dance and theatre rehearsal/workshop space with a feature wall of full length mirrors.
The core vision is the focus on supporting the preservation and continuation of Indigenous languages and culture in Maningrida and it’s many incredible surrounding countries through the Creative Arts.
We work closely with all Maningrida organisations such as Maningrida Arts and Culture, Djelk Rangers, Maningrida Community Education Centre (School) and Greats Youth Centre.
The Wiwa Project aims to facilitate more support for the community to celebrate and document the arts, music, language and culture in it’s many facets, both in a traditional and modern context.
We are invested in providing a service to Maningrida people first. By creating living records of whats taking place here right now, families own all rights to all content and property and choose what they would like to see happen with it. Some works may never leave the community. Some ceremony and sorry business for example is for personal records only and are fundamentally created as a service to the families.
However there are also many people very excited about sharing their stories and are proud to be creating work for the purpose of showing the world the positive and important parts of this country and it's peoples.
Music and Dance are intrinsic to the retelling of creation stories and have been used in ceremony for thousands of years to keep culture and history alive and well TODAY. We are proud to support this ancient process by way of documentation and know that the work we are doing is of immeasurable value for generations to come.
We are also a fantastic practical resource for the many Maningrida organisations to utilise an in house Media unit providing Photography, Campaign films, Music, Print Media and Marketing.
