At a meeting of cultural leaders held at Maningrida Arts and Culture Friday 28 October an arts and cultural sub-committee was formed to govern the priorities of the art centre, women’s centre, Djomi museum and music and media projects. The following week the first meeting of this committee took place to discuss the work of the committee to rebuild the arts and cultural areas of Bawinanga. “From now on, we will have regular meetings, and we will bring the life back to the art centre. We will bring our language back, and know what is happening on the exhibition side, and every side of the business. From today we start to be strong together again. Are we going to start fresh? Or are we going to go back to how it was? We want to see and understand how the business is being run.” Ivan Namirrkki, senior artist from Kumurrulu. Committee members are: Raelene Bonson, Serena Bonson, Bob Burruwal , Mick England, Dorothy Galaledba, John Mawurndjul, Ivan Namirrkki, Freda Wayatja-Ali, Debra Wurrkidj, Owen Yalandja, Lena Yarinkura, Claire Barwudba, Esher Yarllarlla, Doreen Jinggarrabarra and Mary Nabalankara. 15 people, 10 women and 5 men from Martay Burarra, Anbarra Burarra, Rembarrnga, Gun-nartpa, Kuninjku, Kune, Kunibidji and Nakara.
