As it get closer to Christmas I am working on building up my numbers of purebred Light Sussex and Plymouth Rock. But the old hens still hold the mongrel in them. Notice the Rhode Island Red Rooster.

All Incubators are full. 184 hens eggs and 12 duck eggs. I have a lot of chicken kits going out over the next few weeks. The eggs are very fertile. I only threw out 4 duds from the 60 eggs that have been candled. Good work Roosters!!

The incubator is humming along nicely. Next week I have to have collected enough eggs for 7 kits to go out in the one day. That is a total of about 140 eggs!! The chickens are going to be hybrids that I have breed myself. You will be able to tell which are the boys and which are the girls as soon as they hatch.

Winter is here!! we are not hatching at the moment as it is too cold and tough on the little chickens at this time of the year. Butttt... I have been out smarted by a persistent broody hen. The other day she emerged from a wood pile with 5 little chicks.

WINTER IS COMING!!! Chicken Hatching 2 U will be finishing up for the colder months. It is very tough on the chicks as there is less sunlight hours to feed and long cold nights. It is best to hatch over the warmer, sunnier months. I will be back hatching in late August. I have new breeds available for people wanting hens. They are: - Light Sussex - Rhode Island Red - Hybrids (ISA Brown equivalent but healthier) - of course we still have our faithful plymouth rocks

AMAZING MIRACLES HAPPEN!!! Late Saturday night I accidentally knocked the incubator full of ready to hatch eggs on the cement floor. CARNAGE!! All chicken eggs smashed, So SAD :( and upset. The duck eggs although smashed on the outside the skin had held on the inside so I thought I would put them back in and see what would happen. I candled the eggs and saw movement so left them. Last night 2 hatched in a childcare centre. Im still waiting to hear if anymore hatch tonight.
