This week as part of the Biomimicry program Microsoft came out to Hornsby Girls and ran year 8 through a 2 hour coding workshop. By the end of two hours all of the girls had created a computer game and student engagement was very high throughout the time the students programming. Thanks to Microsoft, Mr Re and Ms DeLosa for organising the event.
Michelle Zhong Year 10 who has been selected to represent NSW at the Australasian Under 17 Badminton Championships in Perth. We wish Michelle all the best for the upcoming championships.
Aleisha Mathias Year 11 UN Youth has been selected to be part of a group of ten students from a pool of two hundred applicants to represent NSW at the National UN Youth Conference held in Brisbane in July. She has been selected based on her extraordinary diplomacy, negotiation and debating skills. Well done Aleisha.
Lily Henke Year 11 Rostrum Voice of Youth Competition who won her heat and is now competing in the Regional Final. Well done Lily!
Katherine Allen and Sampavi Kanagalingam two members of the HSC Class of 2015 who have received highly prestigious scholarships to UNSW. The UNSW Co-Op Scholarship will pay all fees for their university study over the coming years. The scholarship also offers them work place and industry experience in their holidays. Ms Allen has been awarded a Software and Engineering Scholarship and Ms Kanagalingam has been awarded a Business Intelligence Systems Scholarship.

Mother Daughter Night Saturday March 12 was a wonderful success thanks to the enthusiastic participation of the 137 attendees and the excellent activities organised by the P and C members Mrs Divya Mathias and Mrs Charissa Cameron. Thank you also to the judges Mrs Madhu Krithivasan and Ms Tan Truong and the assistants Dan, Angus, Hugh and Andrew. It was a great night of games and trivia and a wonderful introduction to the school for the many Year 7 students and their mothers.
CONGRATULATIONS to the 27 girls who represented Hornsby Girls at the North West Metropolitan Girls Zone Swimming Carnival. It was a HUGE team effort, with Hiro Kojo (Year 9) as Team Manager and all swimmers contributing to the point score which saw Hornsby finish 3rd Overall! Without a doubt Hornsby was once again the loudest cheer squad on the day! Zone Swim team: Year 7 –Phoenix Ashworth, Sarah Bernard, Kate Chipman, Lisa Knight, Ikshita Pandey, Serena Pek, Peggy Qiu. Year 8 – Esther Oh, Nikki Qin, Freya Roberts, Angela Xie. Year 9 – Sarah Chong, Joy Koong, Eve Timms, Kristen Tiong, Yi Zhao. Year 10 – Louise Berry, Sabrina Hor, Kiri Kerr ,Jenny Wang. Year 11 – Soo Bin Lee, Grace Roberts, Olivia Se, Echo Huang, Louise Zhang. Year 12 – Kassandra Di Bona, Michelle Lokugamage.

It was a fun filled night on Saturday for our Mother Daughter Night. 145 students and parents and helpers attended this great night organised by the HGHS P and C. Thank you to all those who attended and to Mrs Mathias and Mrs Cameron for their organisation of all the exciting activities including newspaper dress making and balloon racing!

The first P and C Grounds Day will be held on Saturday 27 February from 8am – 11am. Thank you to our organisers Mr Andrew Roberts and Ms Catherine Lentfer. Thank you also to Mr Jono Sanders our Grounds Day adviser who has continued to support the school long after his daughter completed her secondary studies here.
