Learn Djembe Online
Description
Become a better djembe or dundun player!
This is the official facebook page of Learn Djembe Online (LDO).
Learn Djembe Online is a study resource for West African djembe drumming created by Australian djembe teacher Tara Tucker. It was produced in India in collaboration with Taal Inc (Pune).
LDO consists of video tutorials for 18 West African rhythms suitable for beginner and intermediate players. Australian djembe teacher Tara Tucker presents 2 accompaniments for each rhythm in a very clear, logical and thorough, manner. In addition to detailed rhythm instruction, cultural information is provided so that you know where each rhythm comes from and why it is traditionally played. Also included is a video that demonstrates the 3 dunun (bass drum) parts.
Each rhythm package includes a full ensemble video that shows the 5 accompaniment parts (3 dununs & 2 djembes) coming in one by one. You can print out the easy-to-read rhythm notations and use them as a reference. Don't worry if you're not familiar with djembe notation because there's a video explaining how to read them. And to help you master the 3 sounds of the djembe, we have also included a video that shows you basic djembe technique.
Practice the rhythms at a speed that suits your level of expertise by playing along with the downloadable audio tracks. There are separate tracks for each of the djembe parts and for the dunun ensemble. Each is provided at 3 or 4 different speeds, ranging from 75 to 135 beats per minute.
