AUSTRALIA The Western Australian Museum's Maritime Archaeology Department, based at the WA Shipwrecks Museum, primarily researches shipwreck archaeology from the Western Australian coast. Its staff members are involved in developing artefact management and cataloguing strategies, outreach and wreck-access programs, site-inspection techniques, and studies of diverse maritime sites, such as iron ship archaeology and underwater aviation archaeology.
The collection and conservation of archaeological material recovered from historic shipwrecks found along the Western Australian coast led to the establishment of the WA Shipwrecks Museum, one of the few museums in the world with a specific focus on the preservation and display of maritime archaeological material.

MADWAM'S FRENCH CONNECTION STUDIES ARE RAMPING UP UNDER NICOLAS BIGOURDAN WITH A VERY WELL-RECEIVED SEMINAR PRESENTED TO THE FRENCH-AUSTRALIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY. Myra Stanbury was a presenter also and our Director Diana Jones was also there. The question what would we have been like if the French had followed their annexation through using Phil McCarthy's cartoon from his visit to the Dirk Hartog Island annexation site a few years back.

Searches for the bottle containing evidence of the French Annexation of Western Australia in 1772
Myra Stanbury's presentation on St Allouarn's annexation of Western Australia in 1772, a year after James Cook Annexed NSW. A HIGHLIGHT OF THE FRENCH SESSION IN THE RECENT IKUWA. For additional details on the ground-breaking archaeologically-driven metal detection search for the French Annexation bottle and its methodology conducted during the 1998 expedition to the site (by HDA Australia in conjunction with the archaeologists present ) see
