Music Mamas

Local singer/songwriter and mum Kat O found there weren't any gigs where she could perform in front of her young daughter, and after talking to female musicians in the same boat the idea for Music Mamas quickly came to fruition. Music Mamas is a Sunday afternoon family friendly event where female singer/songwriters with children play a showcase gig. The artists chosen to play all fit the acoustic rock/folk/roots genre, perfect for kids’ ears. The next Music Mamas is on Sunday 11th December and is a free event. There will even be a few toys to occupy the kids while they listen to mums sing! Check out the event page for more information.

The children in Room 9 at Gowrie Docklands have been concerned about the plight of Orang-utans and have been working on different ways to highlight the problems caused by deforestation in order to grow palm oil. They have supported Melbourne Zoo in their campaign calling for supermarkets to label their products containing palm oil and asking people to consider this when purchasing foods. The group have also created this poster which James suggested they send "all around the world." Like and share their poster to help them make a difference! “I think it’s not good the orang-utans are dying because I like orang-utans” - Patrick “We made a sign that says no cutting down trees and no killing Orang-utans” - Willow

Meet Krish from Gowrie Docklands. This year, Krish took a strong interest in helping to count out all the nappies collected for The Nappy Collective and while counting could often be heard saying "So many nappies, so many happy bottoms!" During the October collection Krish was able to donate his own nappies left over at Gowrie and nappies from home as he now wears undies! Thanks to Krish and many others, Gowrie has collected over 4,000 nappies since October 2014, and we hope to collect another 2,000 during this collection! The Nappy Collective redistributes these nappies to support families that are crisis or need. Not only are we helping to support the community, we are saving these nappies from going straight to landfill!
