Due to unforseen circumstances our food van has to stay in it's shell this weekend so for those of you out and about for Burgers & Beers you can still visit the team in our usual spot at the Hamlet for some Louisiana style street food delights. We'll still be running some Louisiana BBQ for the weekend out of the usual spot so you won't need to go without! #louisiana #streetfood #canberra #cbr #wearecbr #soulcartel #itsgoodforyoursoul #soulfood
Welcome to the Soul Story Soul Cartel is a food truck which spends most of it’s life hanging out at The Hamlet in Braddon serving delicious ‘food for the heart n soul’ inspired by the best flavours all the way from New Orleans, Louisiana. The cuisine found in New Orleans isn’t just good, it’s historic. The Cajun and Creole flavours are special to locals and a big focus for Soul Cartel, as well as highlighting American diner, southern and tex-mex style food. However, the owners Peter, Zack and Darren are not from New Orleans, they just love the food, the culture, the music, everything that epitomes good ol' southern US cooking! Peter visited NOLA earlier in the year for a couple of weeks and says it was an amazing experience. Everything was vibrant, lively and full of history. So how did the idea of Soul Cartel come to life? “I was actually at a gig at La De Da bar. I was on the BBQ selling hot wings and Cubano sandwiches to promote my original food truck (The Grub Cartel) and I just happened to stumble upon an ad on gumtree for a truck for sale at the Hamlet in Braddon and thought it might be worth a look. So I hit up the other guys with the idea of taking it on and running something Southern out of it. We had a look, made the deal and later that day decided on the deep southern cuisine of Louisiana”, Peter says. The philosophy is simple for Soul Cartel, make food that the owners themselves want to eat, use good, preferably local, ingredients and make as much as possible from scratch. The Soul Cartel can also be found at many local CBR events including The Sunset Cinema (which runs until 17 December) last week's music festival, Spilt Milk and both upcoming food festivals in the City; Burgers, BBQ and Beers on 16 and 17 December, and Street Food on 18 and 19 December. Keep a look out for the van, or visit them at their unique location in Braddon for a great food experience surrounded by friendly people.
