To the people of Pambula Beach and surrounding areas, It has come to our attention that our presence has caused some controversy and conflict within the community. This was not our intention, so we wanted to take some time to address some of the issues raised. This morning a representative of the Pambula small business community approached us for a discussion and raised some concerns about our presence having a potentially negative impact on local businesses. As a result of this discussion, we have decided that we will only trade Mondays - Fridays. Our hours will be from 7am - 12pm, or until we run out of the small amount of stock we are able to store in our fridges (whichever happens first). Furthermore we will only sell coffee and other hot drinks, jaffles and the occasional baked good. We have never sold soft drinks, ice creams, alcohol, fish and chips, burgers or grocery items and nor do we ever intend to. To provide you all with some background, we are a small, family-owned business who, like many of you, are trying to make a go of it for our family. Our business is still in its infancy, and came to fruition after we recently had our first baby and decided to pursue a career change so that we could spend more time together as a family. We also hoped that Four Track would give us the flexibility to spend more time at our beloved Pambula Beach, where our family has had a home (and paid rates) for more than 15 years. While we are based in Canberra, our family has strong ties to the area and have lived, worked and injected money into the local community throughout this time. We also have approval from the Bega Valley Shire council to operate our business at the Pambula Beach Road site, which incidentally cost us a fairly substantial fee for our small business. We would also like to add that we are not bad people. We are simply people that are passionate about good coffee and spending time in Pambula with our family. We have been sourcing most of our ingredients from local suppliers. Our coffee beans come freshly roasted from a carefully considered Canberra-based supplier, who are also an independent, family-based small business. We are very happy to engage with you in further discussions. We hope that you exercise your right to provide feedback to the Bega Valley Shire Council if you have concerns about us. For those who feel we are detrimental to the local community, we trust that you will exercise your right to simply not buy our product. For those who have specific concerns, you are welcome to pop by for a civilised discussion, or email us, and we will take your concerns on board. We do not feel, however, that we or anybody else should have to tolerate further aggressive encounters from disgruntled community members at our place of work. This is completely unacceptable. We would never do this to anybody, and nor will we ever teach our child that this is an appropriate way to treat a fellow human being. On this note, we will also have no part in any attacks on local businesses or people on social media. We accept that others are free to say what they wish, but Four Track will not be participating in any sledging, trolling or derogatory comments...we're of the opinion that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Finally, to the many, many community members who have been such kind, gracious and welcoming hosts, we thank you so much for making our family feel so welcome and accepted.
