Sendai Karate at Burwood is a family orientated club with over 50 years of experience in the instruction of Karate and self defence under the guidance of Shihan Kurt Klimkait. We focus on achieving target specific goals by implementing both traditional and sport aspects of Shito-ryu Shukokai Karate-do.

Sendai Karate Club’s Reishiki – Dojo Etiquette Sequence for bowing ceremony while sitting in “Seiza” The person taking the warm up or the most senior grade will say the commands. 1. “Seiretsu” or line up – Students line up in grade order. Senpai or Sensei stands in front of the line. 2. “Kiyosuke” – Everyone comes to attention. 3. “Seiza”. Everyone sits in kneeling position. Starting with Senpai/Sensei followed by the highest rank in line right down to the lowest grade. 4. “Mokuso”. Students close their eyes. Right fist is cupped by the left hand and both hands are resting on students lap. Shoulders should be relaxed, students start to clear their minds while taking deep breaths and prepare for the training ahead. 5. “Mokuso yame”. Students open their eyes and place their hands back on their laps. 6. Bowing towards Shomen (Front), Senpai/Sensei will say: “Tasshi Klimkait ni Rei” Students bow to the shomen in order to show respect to their founder and say “OSU”. 7. Senpai/Sensei turns around and faces the students then says “Sensei ni Rei”. Students bow and say “Osu”. 8. “Otaga ni Rei”. The students and sensei bow to each other while saying “OSU” in a mutual display of respect and courtesy. 9. “Kiritsu” or “Yame”. Sensei stands up first followed by highest rank down to the lowest grade. Everyone stand in Musubi dachi. 10. “Rei”. Everyone performs a small standing bow to end the ceremony.

We will be hosting Sensei Craig Catania & Sensei Darryl Thornton, two Senior Instructors from The Shito-ryu Shukokai Union who will be running through both Kumite & Kata Rules. This session is open to Children and Adults of ALL Grades Friday, 2nd June 2017 The session will start at 6:00 pm – Actual workshop will commence at 6:30 pm and finish at 8:00 pm FREE EVENT
