DO YOU EVER FIND YOURSELF UNABLE TO MAKE A DECISION BECAUSE YOU FEEL YOU NEED TO CONTROL THE OUTCOME? Maybe its time to let go... Let go of the fear and judgements Let go of the confluence of opinions swimming around in your head Let go of all the reasons, right and wrong Let go of all the planning and calculations about how to do it just right You don't need to ask anyone or read a book for advice You don't need to journal about it You don't need to ask for opinions on social media You don't need to check your horoscope You don't need to analyse on whether you should let go You don't need anyone around you You don't need applause or congratulations, thanks or praise Picture it like a leaf falling silently and effortlessly from a tree, with no struggle, no good or bad And in that space of letting go, trust that the answer will come...

#TuesdayTidbits HOW TO GIVE IN TO YOUR CRAVINGS WITHOUT FEELING GUILTY... There has been a common theme arising in the clients I have had come through my door this week. It all centres around the guilt and negative self-talk we engage in when we crave certain "bad" foods. This guilt can send us into a downward spiral, almost reinforcing to us that it's all too hard, we are not strong enough and we don't have enough willpower to be able to get healthy, or achieve our optimal weight. When we experience this guilt and other negative emotions, it's almost like we are being hit with a double whammy. Both physically, from consuming the food, and mentally from feeling bad about it. But what if we were to turn half of that equation around? Instead of eliminating the bad food, try eliminating the mindset. Next time you sense a craving coming on, try approaching it like this: 1. When you feel the the craving coming on, bring your awareness to that particular moment in time. Make a conscious decision whether to give in to the craving or not. Just decide in that moment, without doubt or second guessing. 2. If you do decide to indulge, then do it. And enjoy it. Approach the food (be it chocolate, sweets, doughuts, soft drink, whatever your vice) from the mindset of the joy and pleasure it gives you, using all of your senses but especially the pleasure of taste. Savour it, and be thankful for it. 3. Once you have finished eating, move on with your day. Don't dwell on it. Instead, just relax about it and let it go. Tomorrow is another day. If we can work to remove the negative associations and guilt we have around "bad" foods, and start to create a more positive mindset, one of kindness, compassion and forgiveness for ourselves, then over time our mind and body will naturally start to seek out foods that will nourish us. Our body knows what's best for us, it's our mind that plays tricks and likes to self-sabotage. If we can change our minds, we can change our life! Try it next time you feel a craving coming on, and see if you notice a difference in your day...

#TuesdayTidbits Ever heard the saying "you're not sick, you're dehydrated"? Water is so critical for our being but we often underestimate how nourishing it is to stay fully hydrated throughout the day. Water is involved with almost every biological function in the body. If you are not fully hydrated, your metabolism will slow down and your body’s ability to utilize fat as fuel becomes restricted. SOME SIMPLE WAYS TO DRINK MORE WATER THROUGHOUT YOUR DAY: 1. Start each day with a glass of water, ideally with some lemon juice or apple cider vinegar mixed in, but this is not essential. The important thing is to get hydrated first up! 2.Whenever you feel hungry, it may be your body's way of telling you you're actually thirsty. Start with a glass of water and if you are still hungry 15 minutes later, then eat. 3. Use a phone app to set reminders to drink water throughout the day. There are a range of apps that you can set either regular or random reminders to fit in with your own situation. Create a new habit around drinking more water and it will soon become second nature. You won't even have to think about it, and I guarantee you will notice the difference in your body, mind and energy levels.

#TuesdayTidbits SINGLE TASKING - IT'S ALL THE RAGE Studies have shown that our metabolism is 30-40% more effective when we are focused, aware and present with the food we are eating. So today I have just one tip for you all. Well its more of a challenge really. Next time you eat, just eat. Nothing else. Put your phone out of reach, or better still turn it off altogether. Turn off the TV, eliminate other distractions as much as possible and just focus on the pleasure of your food. How does it look? How does it smell? How does it taste? How does it feel as you chew and savour the flavours? Perhaps eat somewhere different than you normally do so you are taking yourself out of autopilot mode. Maybe take it outside... Conscious mindful eating, it's such a simple concept but not easy to do! Perhaps set yourself a challenge to simply eat more mindfully for each meal or snack you have this week, or even just today. Set a goal for yourself that you can easily achieve and enjoy the results. Trust me, your body (and mind) will be ever so grateful :)
