Tips from our trainer Laura Groseth. I get asked questions by my clients a lot like what kind of workouts I do, how I stay motivated, what's my training philosophy, so here it is: I don't believe there is a right or wrong when it comes to lifting. To me, the gym is a lab and every workout is an experiment. If your body can physically handle it and your mind can mentally endure it, why not lift it? My workouts are more like guidelines never set in stone. If a set has a rep scheme of 15 best believe I'm thinking 18 or 20. Rarely do I follow my plans to a T. Every workout I've built for a client I've done myself, most likely earlier that day. The order has to make sense, the movements have to feel right, and the weight has to challenge you as much as possible. There's nothing worse than leaving the gym feeling defeated. Idk how many times I've come back the same day and done the exact same workout over because I knew I could've done better. I don't believe in rest days but I know my body needs them. The days I rest are the days I think and plan the most for the week to come. I know if I don't plan I don't get the full potential out of myself for that workout. I fail over and over every single week but once in a while I'll hit a new PR and every failure is forgotten. I find motivation in my results. Getting through a really hard workout is sometimes my accomplishment for the day, simple as that. If I could give 100% to every single workout I would but realistically somedays 70 or 80% is all I have because that's life! We're human and honestly some days just straight up suck so dragging your butt to the gym was a miracle in itself. Once you make lifting your lifestyle it becomes necessary. Bad days get better, and good days even more! Sharing what I know through my experience of trial and error is the best advice I can give. I look to put the same kind of empowerment I feel into people because I truly love and enjoy what I do. Day after day. It never gets easier, you just get stronger. So KEEP GOING!!
