Celebrating the bizarre and insane since 1999. The Boston Underground Film Festival (BUFF) is an annual event committed to the celebration of alternative vision and cultivation of independent, provocative and experimental filmmaking.

By featuring work that pushes the envelope in form, style and content, BUFF seeks to be a platform for the screening of new work and a forum for the exchange of ideas amongst filmmakers, curators and audiences. We feature arthouse, dark comedy, horror, cult, short films, documentaries, and a music video program.

Going into its 17th year, BUFF aims to bring filmmakers and their strange, beautiful, haunting, horrifying, profound, comedic, and exquisite cinematic masterpieces from all over the world, face-to-face with our audience of cineastes.

"BUFF is a terrific festival! Great audience! Great staff! Screening there was a delight. I can't wait to return!" ~ Don Coscarelli (Phantasm, John Dies at the End)

"Boston Underground Film Festival was one of my favorite film festival experiences I've had. Organized, attentive and downright fun.  With a great selection of movies, Buff attracts one of the rowdiest and most vocal group of cinema lovers in the nation. My screening was an absolute blast and I hope I get the opportunity to showcase my next film there!" ~ Mike Mendez (Big Ass Spider!)

"I went to BUFF with nothing and I left with a pink vibrating bunny; how could that not be an excellent time!?" ~ Simon Rumley (Red, White & Blue)

“The Boston Underground Film Festival prides itself on digging up naughty and subversive little flicks that look something like a Herschell Gordon Lewis/John Waters concoction.” – DigBoston
