Woodbury Leadership Academy
Description
Woodbury Leadership Academy is a K-7 Public Charter School located in Woodbury, MN (an eastern suburb of Mpls/St. Paul). Woodbury Leadership Academy (WLA) is a tuition-free charter school serving approximately 260 students in grades K-6. Our primary goal will be to work in partnership with families from Woodbury and the surrounding communities who wish to participate as full partners in the education of their children in a rigorous educational environment that fosters student success. WLA ensures academic success through rigorous curriculum standards, while setting high expectations for students.
WLA uses inquiry-based learning while building strong skills in math, reading, literature, writing, music, science, physical education, Spanish, art & technology – all of the essential areas of learning. We will also implement a strong character education program to ensure students develop exceptional leadership skills and are well rounded in all areas, social and academic, and prepared for high school and beyond.
WLA is to be a school where students and graduates receive exceptional leadership skills, and are prepared to take on the challenges they will face as they transition into high school. The mission of WLA is to utilize Core Knowledge curriculum to provide an educational program that is academically rigorous, based on solid research, and demonstrated success. In addition to the Core Knowledge Curriculum, we utilize Saxon and Singapore Math, and a character education program to build leadership skills throughout the school. The commitment of WLA is to deliver the curriculum with passion via dedicated teachers who will work in partnership with families to ensure the ultimate success of every student. WLA graduates will enter high school academically and socially prepared with exceptional leadership skills that will ensure their success in high school and beyond.
It is the goal of WLA to provide all students a standards-based education, dedicated to the mastery of a broad-base of knowledge and the development of a rich vocabulary, full literacy and mathematics skills. WLA is built on the Core Knowledge Sequence. This curriculum exceeds Minnesota State Academic Standards for K-8. The Core Knowledge Sequence is currently being used successfully in schools throughout the United States to empower students to excel, and with great success and proven results!
The vision of WLA is to be a school where students receive exceptional Core Knowledge curriculum coupled with leadership skills, and therefore prepared to take on the challenges they will face as they transition into high school. The goal of this vision is to empower every student to be upstanding citizens and to develop the leadership skills necessary to prepare them to be their very best.

Woodbury Leadership Academy (WLA) is a charter elementary and middle school in Woodbury, Minnesota that opened its doors in the fall of 2014. We have been building partnerships with families from Woodbury and the surrounding community who wish to be involved as partners in the education of our children in a rigorous educational environment that fosters student success. At our school, we utilize core-knowledge curriculum and inquiry-based learning while building strong skills in math, reading, literature, writing, music, science & technology - all of the essential areas of learning. We have also implemented a strong character education program to ensure students develop exceptional leadership skills and are well rounded in all areas, social and academic. To drive our mission and vision, funds that you contribute will go directly towards providing scholarships to our 5th grade students to attend Wolf Ridge Environmental Camp and science instructional materials, including an entry level robotics program. WLA is also currently in the process of acquiring a permanent school building, so some funds will go directly towards the purchase of a playground for our new school! There are a few ways that you can Give to the Max! We like to give our donors options! (1) You can always mail your gift directly to WLA! Be sure to write "Give to the Max" in the memo. Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, Guatemala and other countries in Latin America. It is a time to remember our loved ones who have passed by building altars with offerings to honor them. 🍞🍎🍊📚🎃💦🌸🌼 At WLA, we care about culture! Our students had a very fun time learning in their Spanish class about this colorful celebration by honoring the Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo, who was Mexico's most famous woman artist. 🎨 Thank you to Ms. Alvarado for going above and beyond to teach our lovely students about something so powerful and meaningful! You're creating memories that will last a lifetime!

⚖🔑WLA believes there are universally important civic and ethical virtues that are the foundation of a free and democratic society. Our Core Virtue program aligned to Core Knowledge provides interesting and meaningful opportunities to cultivate character through the promotion of basic moral, civil, and intellectual virtues. Each month WLA has an All School Assembly, where students create skits and songs focused on a Core Virtue! Families are always welcome! This month Mrs. Erickson's class focused on the Core Virtue of DILIGENCE! Her students created a Family Fued game that featured our core virtue, and it was so much fun to watch! The hero representing diligence that was presented today was Norman Borlaug! Great job Mrs. Erickson's class!! You did an amazing job teaching us about our Core Virtue - Diligence! 👍🏼👏🏼 Our next All School Assembly is November 2nd! 🗓 We hope to see you there to learn about the Core Virtue - Gratitude!
