St Gregory the Great Parish is the spiritual home for Catholics in the South Whittier area. The parish was created on February 9, 1951, by Archbishop James Francis McIntyre.
The current church was solemnly dedicated on September 13, 1953 by now-Cardinal James Francis McIntyre.
In 1958, our parish hall was built.
Remodeling and enlarging of the church began in January 1963, and a new rectory was constructed in 1968.
In 1980, Fr. Donald Ruddy (then pastor) celebrated his 25th anniversary as a priest. He was made a Monsignor in 1995, and the Msgr. Ruddy Center was constructed the following year.
Our food pantry outreach ministry "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" was created in 2000.
The Perpetual Adoration Chapel was opened in 2003.
In 2010, the old convent was refurbished to become the new Faith Formation Center.
