Description
Vernon's oldest restaurant. Family owned and operated since 1961. Opened April 29, 1961 by Fred and Loys Ray, Fred's Corner Grille operated as a Dairy Queen for more than 40 years. Now independent, Fred's has been operated by Charissa Morrison for more than a decade. Fred's was recognized by the Texas Legislature and Governor Rick Perry in 2011 for its 50 years of service to the community.

Texas Music Office
Hi eveyone. In addition to co-owning Fred's Corner Grill with Charissa, I work for the Governor at the Texas Music Office and would like to share this with you. Please help us help Texas schools with music lessons and instruments. - Stephen Ray The Texas Music Office (TMO), operating within the Office of the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Division, has launched the Texas Music License Plate Grant Program to fund the purchase of musical instruments and music lessons for underserved Texas school children. The TMO receives $22 out of the $30 fee for the sale of every Texas Music license plate to be used for the grants. Texas Music license plates are available for order online through the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (link below).

Fred's was opened this day in 1961. It was a Saturday. Hamburgers were 19 cents, hotdogs were 10 cents. John F. Kennedy was President and Runaway by Del Shannon was the number 1 song in the country.
