GumTree Museum of Art
Description
Gum Tree Museum of Art has been bringing the highest quality exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and arts activities to the surrounding communities for the last 25 years! Come join us!!! The GumTree Museum of Art, Inc. was established as a non-profit corporation in 1982. Since 1985, the GumTree Museum, a public visual arts gallery, has maintained a high standard of visual art for its members and the public, and serves as an educational institution for the visual arts. Through the highest quality exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and other activities, the Museum has established itself as a center for the promotion of the visual arts and an important cultural asset to the state of Mississippi. Much emphasis is placed upon the importance of education through hands-on workshops for children and adults.
The original Peoples Bank & Trust Company building, located in downtown Tupelo, has housed the GumTree Museum of Art since February 1985. The Beaux Arts-style building was built between 1904 and 1905, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Hosted by the GumTree Museum of Art, the GumTree Festival, a two-day event held on Mother's Day weekend, presents fine arts and crafts on the lawn of the courthouse. The GumTree Festival attracts artists from across the USA, vying for the opportunity to showcase their talents.
