The Exhibit Hall at the Mesaland’s Community College’s Dinosaur Museum houses a host of replicated and original fossils from tiny footprint casts to the 40′ long skeleton Torvosaurus, a rare carnivore relative of Tyrannosaurus rex which hails from the Jurassic period. The Museum’s focus is on the Mesozoic period, which is also known as ‘The Age of Dinosaurs.’ The Mesozoic is comprised of the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.

‘Super Bacteria’ Were Around Before the Dinosaurs

Glendale, Ariz., resident Samuel Burke, a new master's student in the Global Field Program (GFP) offered through Miami University's Project Dragonfly, will travel to Belize in June 2017 to study coral reefs, manatees, howler monkeys, jaguars and other wildlife while learning the methods communities are using to sustain them. Since the program began 13 years ago, Project Dragonfly's Earth Expeditions graduate courses have engaged more than 2,000 people in firsthand educational and scientific research at critical conservation field sites in Africa, Australia, Asia and the Americas. Dragonfly is located in the department of biology at Miami University, a state university in Oxford, Ohio. Miami was established in 1809 and is listed as one of the eight original Public Ivies. More research going on here at Mesalands! So excited by this find - upon examining an ice core from Antarctica our students uncovered prehistoric mold! With the help of gene sequencing Sam and Ryan were able to present their research last week. We look forward to seeing how this unfolds as things grow :-)
