The Superior Fire Department and the Junior Chamber of Commerce got together in 1948 and organized a Christmas toy drive. Santa arrived in style at Superior's Richard I. Bong Airport in November of 1949. He was in town to take part in a Tower Avenue parade arranged by the Superior Retail Merchants. Twelve local Boy Scouts would serve as Santa's honor guard during the event. The Scouts would also collect letters to Santa from youngsters along the parade route and Santa promised that all letters "written in a good clear hand" would get a response from him. Central High School's band, under the direction of S. Brinley Shaw, would provide Christmas music and march alongside Santa in the parade.

The decorations at the house located at 2003 Weeks Avenue won a prize in the Junior Chamber of Commerce's 1950 Christmas Home Lighting Contest. Celestine and Ed Tancig placed wooden cut out carolers outside their decorated front door. Christmas music played by an "automatic phonograph" made the scene even more festive. Jane Rehnstrand, art instructor at Superior State College and Lillian Olson, art supervisor for Superior's public schools, were among the judges. The Tancig family won a food mixer for their decorating efforts.
