East Moline Correctional Center is more energy efficient after replacing 140 outdoor light fixtures with LED lighting. The facility received a $11,500 rebate check from MidAmerican Energy. In addition to reduced maintenance, the lighting upgrade will save the facility about $3,650 per year on energy costs!

Centralia Correctional Center was recently named “Facility of the Year” by the Aunt Mary’s Storybook Program! The facility was chosen for the extra effort Correctional Counselor Susan Walker puts into facilitating the program. Aunt Mary’s Storybook gives incarcerated parents the opportunity to record themselves reading books for their children. The recordings and books are then shipped to the children at no cost to the facility.

On Friday, Danville Correctional Center donated 450 pounds of fresh produce to Central Illinois Foodbank! The fruits and vegetables were grown by men incarcerated at the facility and will be used to help feed local families who are food insecure.

A new program at the Dixon Springs Impact Incarceration Program is giving incarcerated women the opportunity to crochet character wigs and other items for children with cancer. Correctional Counselor Toma Branche developed the Mending Hearts program and Correctional Officer Amanda Lefler taught the women how to crochet! A big thank you to staff at Shawnee Correctional Center for donating yarn for this special project.

Today, IDOC parole intelligence and parole agents worked in conjunction with the Joliet Police Department to conduct a series of compliance checks. At one residence, agents recovered three handguns, one magazine, and several rounds of ammunition. Three people were arrested and taken into custody by Joliet Police. Great job keeping our communities safe, IDOC Parole!
