It’s been an eventful week at Spay Arkansas. In two days we altered 91 cats and dogs. Today we believe we completed a project that we have been working on for about three weeks. The last of a large number of Chi mixes from a home in Huntsville were altered thanks to a donation by Charles and Janelle Riddle. The owners realized they needed help and our executive director Sally Baker Williams was able to work with the very nice family to surrender a good number of them to us. They’ve been sent to various rescues and several have been adopted locally. Last nights puppy delivery was the last one we physically have. Along with these dogs we accepted into our foster family 6 pups yesterday and another two today. Grateful is a big word we use here and we are truly grateful for the 8 homes that we have animals in tonight. A total of 23 animals are now under our watch and await transport or adoption. Once again we beg everyone to please get your pets spay or neutered. This effort costs money, a lot of money. As puppy and kitten season is upon us, please consider fostering for your local shelter or rescue. Saving lives depends upon your opening your home, cleaning up after pets that aren’t yours and in general going outside your comfort zone. Worth it? Yes, it’s an experience and memory that’ll last a lifetime.

Our beautiful mother Ginger and her 6 pups have arrived back to the home of her foster. Please keep this new family in your prayers tonight and give thanks for vets like Dr Jayne who answer our call of need time after time. Good night.

PETUNIA UPDATE: We were hoping for better news and to be able to announce she was ready for adoption, butt unfortunately we are not there yet. Her mouth and palate are not healing as they should from her most recent surgery. She continues on a soft diet and wearing her cone to protect her face and mouth. We will just say she is so over the cone, but is really good about wearing it. She will be having a CT scan done today in hopes of determining what is causing the delay in healing. Please be holding some good thoughts for positive news on an easy fix to this latest dilemma. Her foster mom tells us that in every aspect other than the mouth injuries, she is a typical 11 week old puppy. She has nearly tripled in size since coming in at 5 weeks of age and weighing a mere 4 lbs. She is learning new things and does well with crate training. The only time she urinates or defecates in the crate is when she has been in it for an extended period of time. She gets along well with all humans she meets, does not mess with the cat in the foster home, is learning boundaries and how to play well with the adult dogs in the household, and knows not to go under the fence to where the horse is in a pen. All in all, this sweet girl is still a fighter and has not given up! Her spirit is strong and we have hope she will soon be fully recovered. The bills are still coming in, so if you have a bit to spare to donate to her fund, we would deeply appreciate it. She hasn't given up and we are not giving up on her! Do you consider yourself a Superhero? We still need one more foster for a group of three puppies starting tomorrow. Can you help us? Remember fostering saves lives. Our mission is to prevent them from being born but when accidents happen we want to help. Most of our local shelters are not equipped to handle young dogs which is why we get so many requests for assistance. Will you be their hero?

Good morning village! We are in search of fosters for pups! They need to be with you until Friday April 27 or Saturday 4/28. There are 6 but we’d like to split them into two groups of 3. Ready for puppy breath and all the good things that come with puppies? Please let us know! They’d be coming to you on Wednesday or this week with puppy pads, exercise pens and food. Thank you.

Yesterday’s transport included this precious soul. Cases like this are beyond our expertise and we are grateful to our rescue partners who have the resources in order to provide the very best care for special animals like her.

This morning we had the honor of sending off 29 dogs to our goods friends at Rescue Warriors Corp of Elgin Illinois. We are indebted to fosters Channing Barker, Janell Brashers, Amy Helmich Wilson, Evie Comfort, Dena Marie, Kelly Edwards, Barbara Webb, Cheryl Lucius and Cathy Scroggin along with Debbie Haynie Nash and Polly Shore. Driver Ann W. O'Malley drove them to St. Clair Missouri and they are now in Illinois headed to their new forever homes. We thank everyone who sent food, tarps, exercise pens and cash. Vaccines and transport for this group cost over $500. Although this is not our primary mission, when an opportunity arises where we can assist we will do so to the best of our ability. Thank you everyone.

Another wonderful rescue in our area. They specialize mostly in smaller and older dogs. Check them out if you are looking for a new best friend.
