Ayar Law Group is a boutique tax resolution law firm serving Metro Detroit and the greater Southeastern Michigan region.  The Ayar Law Group is committed to resolving state and federal tax problems for individuals and businesses.  Our specialty practice is focused solely on helping taxpayers understand and solve their tax troubles; it’s what sets us apart from other law firms who only devote a portion of their practice to tax resolution services.  Our full-time tax attorneys understand the complexities of the federal tax code, and monitor the constant changes made by Congress.

We pride ourselves on our individualized approach to identifying and solving our clients’ IRS and Michigan tax problems.  We will work side-by-side with you to devise a creative solution, tailored to your individual needs.  Our local tax attorneys place a high priority on knowledge and experience and will help you with any state or federal tax controversy.

Tax problems can become more complicated and difficult to solve with delay, and we advise clients to come to us for a solution before the IRS comes to you.  Are you currently facing an audit?  Our attorneys will walk you through each step of your audit to ensure you can walk away with the lowest level of tax liability possible.  If your concern is an income tax audit, sales tax audit, payroll tax or employee classification audit, or any other state or federal tax matter, a dedicated tax attorney at the Ayar Law Group is prepared to protect your rights and mitigate any potential liability.  Call us today.

All That's News

It would seem to me that donations made on GoFundMe pages looking for pure charity are "gifts" and not income. I find it inequitable and unfair that they would report these amounts on a 1099 when there is a clear donative intent on the part of the donors, which would make it a non-taxable gift, not a reportable transaction. I hope this woman fights the 1099 by filing a return without the income and make the claim it was issued in error. In my line of work, I see mistakenly issued tax documents all the time. If this ever happens to you, always remember that you are not necessarily stuck with how the payor reported the transaction. Just because something is reported on a 1099 does not make it taxable. You have to look at the nature of the payment and apply the tax laws...the laws make a transaction taxable or non-taxable, not some stupid form someone decided to fill out. I am interested to see how this plays out

Our office received this thank you letter just as we were ringing in the new year from a very grateful client who retained us back in August. Fallen on hard times and unable to make his IRS payment plan payments, we were able to negotiate with them and get him on non-collectible status, thereby buying him some time to get his affairs in order and land back on his feet. As you can see by the content of this man's lovely words, his gratitude was incalculable and as he put it "being in a non collectible status has deferred a tremendous financial burden from my shoulders." THAT is something we will NEVER EVER tire of hearing (or reading in this case) and the absolute best way we could have possibly started off the new year - receiving such a lovely Notice of Gratitude; what a beautiful and humbling reminder of why we got into this business in the first place. From our family at Ayar Law Group to yours - we wish you nothing but the very best in this coming year (and tax season) and all the years to come. Don't hesitate to call us with any questions you may have regarding your state or federal taxes. Our consultations are always free and confidential!
