The Socorro Mission, in El Paso’s Lower Valley, is one of the country’s oldest, and still active, Catholic parishes. Open daily to the public. The Socorro Mission, located in El Paso’s Lower Valley is one of the country’s oldest, and still active, Catholic parishes along the “El Paso Mission Trail”. The present-day Socorro Mission, in use since 1843, is adorned with several antique religious statues and hand-carved wooden artifacts. Its unique architecture, which includes 5-foot-thick adobe walls and wood “viga” ceilings, makes this landmark an ancestral treasure in El Paso’s lower valley. The Mission is open daily for visitors and also includes a gift shop that helps support the ongoing preservation and operational efforts for this historical gem.
The Socorro Mission, part of the El Paso Catholic Diocese, is registered as a Texas Historical Landmark and is also listed in the national landmark registry because of its cultural richness and historical importance.
La Misión de Socorro, ubicada en el valle bajo de El Paso, Texas es una de las parroquias más antiguas en Norteamérica que forman parte del “Camino de las Misiones de El Paso”. La Misión de Socorro, en uso continuo desde 1843, es adornada con antiguas estatuas religiosas y altares de madera tallada a mano. La arquitectura de la misión, edificada con paredes de casi 2 metros de ancho y vigas de madera, hace de este recinto religioso un tesoro cultural dentro de la historia del valle de El Paso. La Misión está abierta al público a diario y también incluye una tienda de regalos cuyos fondos recaudados ayudan con los esfuerzos de conservación para esta joya histórica.
La Misión de Socorro forma parte de la Diócesis Católica de El Paso y está registrada en la lista de prominentes edificios históricos del estado de Texas. También se incluye en el registro nacional de edificaciones debido a su riqueza cultural e importancia histórica.

The Socorro Mission - La Purisima Catholic Church is home to an authorized replica of Michelangelo's "The Pieta" sculpture that is in St. Peter's Basilica in The Vatican.

You don't have to be Catholic to enter this tranquil place of worship. Come take a tour, meditate, offer prayer or immerse yourself in thought within the serene & calming setting of this culturally-rich, historical landmark. The Socorro Mission in El Paso's Lower Valley is open to the public 7 days a week from 9am to 4pm (3:30pm on Sundays). Free guided tours for summer camp groups or large groups available by calling the parish office at (915)859-7718 to schedule a visit.

The "First Thanksgiving 1598" Celebration is now underway at the Socorro Mission until 6pm today. Come visit this historical landmark and enjoy some delicious food in addition to art exhibits, local history and a reenactment ceremony at 3:00pm. Free Admission!
