A Place for Everyone Town residents are encouraged to join the Foundation to help fulfill its mission to enhance the sense of community in Sherborn through an annual membership drive.  The Foundation also has an Endowment Fund, which is building toward the goal of funding the costs of all Sherborn organizations who wish to meet here.  We receive no income from the Town of Sherborn to support this endeavor.

In August, 1985 a group of dedicated, community-driven citizens got together and developed a plan to convert Sherborn's Old Town Hall into a community center.  The steering committee included Robert Ambos, Patricia Cassell, Richard Husselbee and Dewey Talbert.  

From this plan was formed The Sherborn Community Center Foundation, Inc., a volunteer-run, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization whose sole purpose is to raise funds to restore and maintain this historic structure. Revenue is generated via membership drives, endowment funding, gifts, functions and rental income. We receive no income from the Town of Sherborn to support this endeavor.

Operating expenses incurred in managing the building include insurance, utilities, supplies and general maintenance.  Current capital investment plans include window restoration, HVAC repair and replacement, general painting, outside wall repairs and roof restorations.  Maintaining the historic nature of the building is a high priority.

Designed by Elbridge C. Boyden, the architect of the Worcester's Mechanics Hall, the Town had specified, "an edifice not so spacious and costly as some of our neighbors but one that in some good degree comports with the intelligence and taste of the age in which we live."  

When finished in 1858, the building was found to be well suited for many purposes:  It housed the Town's high school (sixty students were enrolled there in 1859), the Town library, Town meetings, Board of Selectmen and other Town offices along with various charitable and cultural clubs and organizations.
