Yes, we are in a major drought. This pond, which separates holes 11 & 16 has rarely, if ever, shown any "beach front" property. The water level has always stayed up against the green turf. Eventually, our area will get rain and then we will wonder when it will stop.

Hey Brazilian peppers, "Say hello to my little friend!" While each nine is closed for Champion turf re-grassing, we are accomplishing a lot. Hole #5 will not look the same as we are cutting back several undesirable pockets of vegatation, thus increasing more sunlight and airflow.

Front nine closed for Champion turf re-grassing meant a great time to have a little 5K benefiting Sebastian Charter School. Everything went as smooth as glass and the runners enjoyed seeing the golf course landscapes. Thanks to Run Vero for "running" a perfect event!

Champion Ultra-dwarf project moving forward at a rapid pace. One of the many benefits: softening some of the slopes on the greens. Once grown-in, Champion Ultra dwarf is nice and fast, severe slopes will not be fair to the golfers, plus it would affect the pace of play.

Another one of the many projects SMGC will work on while each 9 is closed during the green re-grassing project will be intensive aerification of all fairways, rough and tees. Aerifying is an important process which relieves compaction, reduces pest stress naturally & improves drainage, thus enhancing overall turf quality. Our golf course is going to look as good as Adam Scott's golf swing!

The Champion Ultra-dwarf green renovation project is in full "swing". Pic 1 shows the completely dead 1st green after being "sod cut". Pic 2 shows removal of dead sod on #9 green and pic 3 shows a minor example of other projects being completed, which includes thorough trimming of all existing palms on the front nine. We are going to get a lot accomplished and by the end of the summer, SMGC will be in world-class condition. We can't wait!
Two more days to go until the front nine greens begin their "transformation" into brand new Champion Ultra Dwarf greens. The timeline consists of front nine re-opening as early as July 13th. We will keep all updated on the process and schedule, complete with some interesting pictures! Going into the last two days before we begin, the front nine greens are still open and lets just say, they are "tour speed" as the grass has been killed, which has created amazingly fast and slick greens,
SMGC is nearing the start date for the greens re-grassing program. Beginning on May 8, 2017, the front nine greens, along with the putting practice green will be be closed for re-grassing with Champion Ultra-dwarf turf. By the end of July, the front nine greens will re-open and the back nine greens will then close to receive the same beautiful Champion Ultra-dwarf turf. The back nine greens will be available by the end of September. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding involving this project, which will be extremely worth-while as SMGC will have some of the finest conditioned greens in the area once the re-grassing project is completed. While each nine is closed, several other areas will be addressed, including Brazilian pepper tree removal & 419 Bermuda fairway grass expansion (into Bahia areas). Fairways and Greens to all!
