facebook.comOur longest term resident at the Santa Barbara Shelter has been adopted! Boots fell in love with his new family and the feeling is mutual (do you see his giant smile?). Boots wants to thank all of supporters-the staff and dedicated volunteers who made this happy day happen for him. Yippee!
Roosters can pose a real issue in our local shelters. Our shelters are not designed to house roosters, especially long term, and they can be difficult to adopt because of zoning ordinances. That does not stop us from trying! Waddles is just one of SIXTEEN roosters waiting in our shelters to be adopted. Waddles has been hanging out in the lobby at the Santa Maria Animal Center to draw attention to him and raise awareness for his fellow feathered friends waiting for a home. Do you have at least an acre of more of land? Would you like to bring the noises of the country into your backyard? We have a rooster for you! Please stop by any of your three Santa Barbara County Shelters and see if one of these handsome hunks might be a good fit for you. The adoption fee is $10! 1501 W. Central Ave, Lompoc, CA 5473 Overpass Rd, Santa Barbara, CA 548 W. Foster Rd, Santa Maria, CA Please share! We would love to see them adopted and are happy to work with rescues too. #Rescuearooster #rooster #farmlife #adoptarooster #roostersrock

ADOPTED! Milo and Otis are waiting at the Santa Maria Animal Center for a new family to love. These two bonded Chinchillas were surrendered to the shelter due to allergies. They are a very fun pet to have if you have the time and energy to play with them. The Cal Chinchilla group has some amazing information if you are thinking of adopting (http://www.cachins.org/). Stop by 548 W. Foster Rd to visit these sweet boys!
Meet Elsie from our LaPAWS Adoption Center in Lompoc. Check our her resume and let us know if you are willing to hire this beauty.
Howdy Y'All! I'm Perry and I took a 28 hour bus ride to get out here to CA from my friends at South Side Street Dogs in Texas. You see, they needed some room to help pets that were affected by Hurricane Harvey and I practically volunteered to make the trek. I have heard that California pets get to romp in the ocean, dine on patios, get spa treatments, and well, there's always the chance to meet a celebrity (or be adopted by one). Not only that but they have amazing hiking trails to explore. The bus ride was long but my friends with Rescue Express made sure I had all my needs met. A really nice Vet Tech from CA even traveled with us and shared what we have to look forward to. I greeted everyone at my destination with a waggin tail and excited eyes as I first hopped off (ok, so a volunteer lifted me off) the bus; that's how we do it Texas style! The people, oh the people, y'all were so welcoming. I felt like a celebrity with all the cameras flashing, people waving, and the nice crowd that I know was only there for me. I made my way to the Santa Maria Animal Center and have been here ever since. Although y'all's shelters are really nice and I get a lot of attention, they are not the same as home. I've now been waitin for 6 weeks (well only a month on the adoption floor) and I am really fancy'in a home of my own. Can you help me find one? I am a lover of belly rubs, playin fetch, afternoon naps, and cuddlin with my human friends. I enjoy the company of easy going, mellow canine companions but would prefer not to be around those obnoxious ones I walk like the gentleman I am on a leash. My main goal in life is to make my person happy. Are you that person? If y'all are interested in meeting me (who wouldn't want to meet me?) please contact the Santa Maria Animal Center at 805-934-6119 or stop by 548 W. Foster Rd and say hello. Can y'all please share and help me get closer to my forever home? Santa Barbara County Animal Care Foundation, Santa Maria Valley Humane Society, Lemos Feed & Pet Supply, Shelter Me
This is one amazing little dog! Basil may be a golden oldie, but don't tell her that, because she acts like a dog half her age. Thanks to K-9 PALS - K-9 Placement and Assistance League, Inc., she has had several growths removed (all benign), a major dental procedure, and been spayed. Through it all, she has been happy and easygoing. She's in a foster home recovering right now, and her foster mom says she is a joy to have around. She's not a barker, and loves to lounge in the yard. Also a big thank you to Buellton Veterinary Clinic for taking such great care of her. Please contact Jennifer.Adame@sbcphd.org if you would like to meet Basil.
Daisy was reported as missing in Lompoc on October 20th. This morning officer Koens received a call from a citizen across town from where she originally went missing saying they had a strange dog in their backyard. Officer Koens quickly realized this was Daisy and tried to make contact with her family, by phone as well as stopping by their residence, but there was no response so he brought her to the shelter. While she was very timid at first, Officer Koens' calm quiet manner (as well as the yummy treats he offered her) seemed to put her at ease and soon she felt comfortable enough to curl up in his lap. Daisy is finally safe at the shelter, waiting for her family to come in and claim her. Too bad dogs don't talk, it would be quite interesting to know where she has been for the last 8 days.
The Greek translation of Orion is "rising in the sky." We are hoping that the time for Orion to be adopted is dawning because he has been waiting a long time at our Santa Barbara Shelter for his forever family. Please come by the shelter to meet Orion - he would love to show you all his tricks!
Did you know that your local shelters see more than dogs and cats? Countywide we have over 85 rabbits looking for loving homes. In Santa Maria we currently have 36 rabbits on our adoption floor. All adoptable rabbits are spayed or neutered and have had a health check. In addition, loving volunteers spend time getting to know each rabbit and help adopters ensure the rabbit they choose is right for their home. Check out these four bouncing buns that are currently waiting for their opportunity to be adopted. If you are not looking to adopt but would like to be a part of our team, we are looking for rabbit volunteers on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. If interested in filling one of those shifts please contact Stacy at stacy,silva@sbcphd.org. Jeanne Sparks Photography
PLEASE SHARE TO HELP REBA! Reba is so sweet she will make your teeth hurt! She needs a very special person because she has a muscle/neurological issue that causes her to have tremors. She has had a whole lot of tests done, and we don't have an official diagnosis, but many veterinarians are confident that she can live a full and happy life in the right home. Her tremors worsen when she gets stressed out or overexcited, so she would obviously do better in a quiet and calm environment (and not the shelter!). Reba is located at our Lompoc LaPAWS shelter. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Reba, please go meet her in Lompoc or email Jennifer.Adame@sbcphd.org. Check out this video of her in a play group as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdulRhdJWm4
