Have you or someone you know ever experienced a concussion? If yes, you understand how it can be frustrating not knowing how long it will take until you start to feel better. A group of researchers at Regions Hospital is trying to change that. The critical care research center is working with a scientist that the University of Pennsylvania to see if a specific biomarker in our blood can predict the severity of a concussion. The goal is that, someday, something as simple as a blood test could help doctors design adequate treatment plans for concussion patients soon after the injury and provide an estimate of how long the recovery process could take. If this ends up being successful, it would be the first clinical test to predict the severity of a concussion. Regardless of the studies outcome, our team is here to provide high quality care should you or a loved one suffer an injury.
