So, if you need to leave me a message and it won’t let you, you can now text me at 989-249-1495 and that should work!

No more saying "I don't know how to do yoga" or "I'm not flexible enough to do yoga" or any of the other reasons that we give for not taking the plunge and going to our first yoga class. There will be no beginners anxiety here because this class is totally for beginners! Foundations of Yoga, starting November 2nd, will be a six week* introduction to yoga class series. Each week we will explore the basics of yoga- What yoga is, why we do yoga, HOW we do yoga, and what yoga can do for us! No experience is necessary as we are starting from the "beginning" together. Each class will be centered around learning not just the physical postures but also breathing exercises, meditation, and yogic philosophy. We will be working on building bodily awareness, muscular strength and flexibility, a focused mind, and safe & healthy bodily alignment. Although open to most fitness levels please consult your physician before starting any new exercise regimen. Each class will consecutively build on the one before it. For that reason, I am encouraging full attendence by offering a discount if paid up-front- $50.00 for the full six weeks (paid on or before November 2nd), or if you prefer- classes are $10.00 each as a "Drop-In" rate. After the 6 weeks are up, we will begin from the beginning again! Class is open to ages 16 and up, although minors will need written consent and a signed liability waiver by a legal guardian. If you have any questions please feel free to call Scott at (989)249-1495. *The dates for this series are November 2nd, 9th, 16th, 30th, December 7th, and 14th, Please note that there will NOT be class on Thanksgiving Day November 23rd.

Lately I've been hearing a lot of stuff that tells me people have a misunderstanding of what "Positive Thinking" really is. I've heard it criticized for encouraging people to ignore negative or stressful things in their life. I've had students say to me "That's not very 'Positive Thinking' of you" while trying to shift their view of the discomfort in their bodies during an intense yoga pose. Positive Thinking, as a philosophy, does not want you to ignore anything. It doesn't want you sit and focus on kittens and puppies while your house is on fire. In a yoga class it doesn't ask you to deny the fact that a pose is intense. All it asks if for you to maybe change how you think about things, not to deny that they are happening. Maybe you can focus your energy on one positive aspect of what is happening, or maybe focus your thoughts on the fact that you have the strength and resources to be able to deal with whatever it is. In yoga sometimes we find ourselves in an asana that is quite intense. We can sit and stew about how much it hurts, we can give up and avoid that asana, or we can choose to breathe thru the discomfort and instead of thinking of it as "pain" we can choose to think of it as our body becoming stronger, more flexible, more resilient, or maybe that our body is letting go of something that no longer serves us. In this way, we are not denying that the sensation is there, we are just changing how we interpret the sensation. We are choosing the highest possible vibration, or the most Positive way of Thinking about it.
