Students from Thornton Academy attended the Maine Model United Nations conference last week at the University of Southern Maine and participated with students from 35 other schools from Maine, New England and beyond. Throughout the conference, our students conducted themselves in the most professional and diplomatic ways while negotiating complex global issues such as border disputes between Chile and Bolivia in the International Court of Justice, the rights of migrant workers in the International Labor Organization, and Article 50 activation with Brexit in the European Union. While representing Brazil and Italy at the conference, three students won the Diplomacy Award, which is the highest committee award recognizing the hard work and achievement of our students. These students were often seen leading these organizations towards Resolutions to combat these global issues. Never have I seen a more passionate and dedicated group of students. I would like to congratulate Logan Casey, Annabel Winterberg, and Hannah Niles for their achievements at this year’s MEMUNC! From TAMUN advisor Nathan McKenney. :)
