Transportation Update – November 9th, 2016 On November 8th, 2016, residents of Richland Hills voted to withdraw from the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (the FWTA). This election was called by the City Council after they received a petition from residents which required them to call the election. The City Council has made it clear that if residents elected to withdraw from the FWTA, they would replace the Mobility Impaired Transportation Service with an equivalent service. We have been notified by the FWTA that they will cease bus service in Richland Hills on November 23rd, 2016. Train service will continue on its normal schedule. Once bus service ceases, a new service will be put in place by Richland Hills. Over the next several days, we will be notifying all current registered users of MITS on how to utilize the new service. If you are not currently registered for MITS but have mobility impairments, please fill out the form below and return it to the City Secretary’s office at City Hall. We will then contact you and provide you additional information on utilizing the new transportation system. http://richlandhills.com/home/showdocument?id=6622

Kate Baker Park update: As most of you are aware, Kate Baker Park has a new look. While the playground equipment has appeared installed and ready to go for over a month now, many other safety aspects had to be met prior to the City being allowed to open it. The contractor has made a few final corrections to the site that should allow us to open the park by next week. You will all see an invitation coming soon for a ribbon cutting on October 29th, at 10am. The playground will likely be open prior to that date but we cannot take the fence down until the playground safety inspector gives us the green light.

Street Funding Survey

The City was recently notified that the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) has decided they are permanently discontinuing the 15% street improvement refund that has historically been provided to Richland Hills. This refund has represented 100% of our street reconstruction budget. This year, the amount that would have been refunded was approximately $210,000. In the 24 years of membership, more than two million dollars has been refunded to the city to fix streets. When residents voted to join the The T in 1992, ½ cent of local sales tax began being directed to The T. Since that time, The T has refunded 15% of their collections from Richland Hills back to the City for street repairs. This was done in part because The T buses have a significant impact on the degradation of our streets due to their weight and traffic patterns. Unfortunately, the City has no say in this matter. The T has the sole discretion to decide whether or not to continue this program, or any other service or program offered by The T within the City. This leaves the City Council in a position of trying to determine how to fund street reconstruction in Richland Hills going forward. Below, please find a link to a survey that we are asking residents to fill out in order to provide feedback to the City Council. Please note the City will not be monitoring comments on social media regarding this issue. We are posting it here to provide awareness. Any comments directed to the City should be posted in the survey below. Information is also available on the City website.
