Take Me Home Pet Rescue
Description
TMHPR, located in Richardson, TX, a non-profit, foster-based rescue with the goal of finding Forever Homes for homeless pets. Our pets live in foster homes, we learn their personalities, train, and fully vet them, before finding the right Forever Family. What makes Take Me Home Pet Rescue (TMHPR) different from every other animal rescue and shelter? Our rescued pets all live in foster homes! Their foster families get to learn everything about them. This helps the foster pick the perfect home for the pet! Pets also get to work on training and house manners.
Take Me Home Pet Rescue was founded in 2008 to meet the growing needs of the homeless pet population in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area. With the addition of the Adoption Center in 2012, TMHPR continues as a foster-based rescue, meeting the needs of homeless pets in need of Forever Loving Homes.
Rescues like Take Me Home, with your support, are able to take animals from overcrowded shelters, and other unfortunate situations and provide them with the appropriate medical care, training and a loving foster home where they can learn to enjoy life again. As a result of living in a home, fosters are able to get to know the pet and help find the perfect Forever Home.
TMHPR has set a goal of expanding our current facilities, as well as, continuing to rescue pets from high kill shelters and from the streets of Dallas. With your help, TMHPR can continue to make a difference in the homeless pet community.

facebook.comSIR EVERETT is all suited up and poses the question, “Are you ready for some football or maybe a game of fetch?” SIR EVERETT is an APPLE HEAD CHIHUAHUA mix and when it comes to Chihuahuas, the "apple head" variety deserves a spot of honor. Why is that? An apple head Chihuahua is the breed's specimen par excellence, meaning it conforms to breed standard and, therefore, reflects what one should expect to see when the word "Chihuahua" comes to mind. In other words, it is the poster child for the Chihuahua dog breed. The apple dome skull head shape is literally like an apple, with a soft spot that dips in at the top called a molera. The Chihuahua personality is cute, confident and courageous. They know exactly how adorable they are. The Chihuahua male reaches about 7 inches tall and 4lb at 18 months old, while the chihuahua female is usually very slightly smaller. More than just another one of those toy breeds, the apple head Chihuahua has a long history, endless loyalty and an abundance of cute, sassy vibes! They’re small dogs famed for hitching a ride in Paris Hilton’s handbag and parading the Hollywood hills on their tiny legs, heads held high in the air. Unlike most others of this breed, Sir Everett does not limit his love and loyalty to only one person. He loves to be the star of the party and enjoys meeting new people. He would like a home where he could have a canine or feline friend as well as human interaction. He’s a busy boy and loves to play fetch. He would also do great with puzzles and games that work him mentally. His first birthday is coming up this week, and he’d love to celebrate it with you. If you would like to meet Sir Everett, please visit our website and fill out our no-obligation Adoption Application. tmhpr.com/adopt
7 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT GERMAN SHEPHERD DOGS • GSD is an acronym for the German Shepherd Dog, one of the few breeds whose official name includes the word “dog.” Why? So people would know whether you were talking about a German shepherd human, who tends the livestock, or the dog helping him. • Out of 100 popular dog breeds, studies have shown that German Shepherds are the 3rd most intelligent (poodles and border collies rank higher). They can learn simple tasks after only five repetitions. They obey the first given command 95% of the time. • While many people think the GSD only comes in the familiar black & tan, black, or white, the AKC actually recognizes eleven colors—the ones mentioned above as well as: bi-color, black, black & cream, black & red, black & silver, blue, gray, liver and sable. The Panda German Shepherd is a bit different, featuring a unique piebald coloring that only occurs in a single GSD bloodline. The majority of the Panda coloring is black and tan, but as much as 35 percent is white. Sometimes this dog also is referred to as a tricolor German Shepherd. • When formal guide dog training began in Switzerland in the 1920s, all of the dogs trained were German Shepherds. • 'Strongheart' is one of only two German Shepherd dogs to grace the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a star. Strongheart was something of a celebrity, appearing in a variety of black-and-white films in the 1920s. The other star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame belongs to 'Rin-Tin-Tin' who was named after a French puppet because he was bred and rescued in France. He is said to be “America’s First Rescue Dog.” • During World War I and II it wasn't uncommon for Allied countries to eliminate or change anything with the word "German" in its name. In the United States, the GSD became just the "Shepherd Dog" and the club changed its name to Shepherd Dog Club of America— both have since re-added "German" to their names. During war time, England also changed the name of the German Shepherd and called it the "Alsatian." • The GSD is the second most registered dog in the United States, due in part to the breeds diversity – they are popular as family, guard, performance, show, police, military, and service dogs. There isn’t much this dog can’t do. BRODY, MINNIE PEARL and ARIA are beautiful and intelligent GSD mixes looking for their forever homes. LOUISIANA CATAHOULA LEOPARD DOG Louisiana's "hog dog" is a jambalaya of native American dogs, Spanish Mastiffs, and Greyhounds. Catahoulas were created to track and drive feral hogs and cattle when it was time to butcher them, and not surprisingly they are aggressively resolute in their work. This tough yet strikingly beautiful dog can have a spotted, brindle, solid, or patched coat of many colors. Other outstanding physical characteristics are his webbed feet, which allow him to swim well and work in soft, marshy areas, and his eyes, which may be blue, green, brown, or amber. Some Catahoulas have eyes that are each a different color or "cracked" eyes: two different colors within the same eye. Named for a Choctaw Indian word meaning "sacred lake," the Catahoula originated in northern Louisiana near Catahoula Lake. He's probably the product of breedings between local dogs and the Bloodhounds, Mastiffs, and Greyhounds brought to the area by Spanish explorers. Other names for this breed are Catahoula curs, Catahoula leopard curs, or Catahoula hounds, but the name was officially changed to Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog when they became the state dog of Louisiana. The Catahoula was used to track and round up the wild hogs that roamed the forests, hence the name hog dog that he sometimes goes by. Expect to provide this hard-working and independent dog with at least an hour of strenuous exercise daily as well as firm guidance during training. When their exercise and leadership needs are met, Catahoulas are loving, calm, and dedicated companions. The Catahoula is a unique dog with a fascinating heritage and strong working ability. It is not suited for life with every family, but when you make a commitment to one and form a bond with him, you have a steadfast protector and companion for life. BOB, a handsome Catahoula mix with beautiful markings, is friendly, lovable, inquisitive and affectionate, and he loves to be around people. True to his breed, he’s very energetic and needs a large yard where he can run and play with his humans and another very active canine. He enjoys belly rubs, cuddling on the couch and playing fetch. FUN FACTS ABOUT CALICO CATS • Calico is Not a Breed The term “calico” refers to a tri-color pattern of the cat’s coat that can occur in almost any domestic feline. Since “calico” is a color and not a breed, these kitties can have either short or long hair, and can range from small to large. For a cat to be considered a calico, three distinct colors must be present. Calicos are predominately white with patches of orange (sometimes red or reddish brown) and black (sometimes gray or blue). • Most Calico Are Cats Female Only 1 out of every 3,000 calico cats born is male. Calico cats are predominantly female because their coat coloring is linked to the X chromosome. Specifically, two X chromosomes are needed for a cat to have a tri-color coat. Males usually only have one X chromosome, so calico cats can’t be male. However, there is a rare condition where a male cat has an extra X chromosome (resulting in XXY instead of the typical XY) and thus, he can be a calico! • Calico Versus Tortoiseshell Calico cats are sometimes confused with tortoiseshell cats (torties). Both terms refer to coat colors and patterns rather than breed, but there are several differences. Both cats have orange and black coloring, but calicos also have large patches of white. The calico coat also has distinct patches of color, whereas the tortie’s colors are typically more swirled together and predominantly black and orange with almost no white. • Maneki Neko is a Calico The Maneki Neko is a popular Japanese cat statue that’s believed to bring good luck and good fortune. This cute ceramic cat with one raised paw is frequently found at the entrance of Japanese and Chinese restaurants, and other places of business. Also called the Beckoning Cat and the Lucky Cat, the Maneki Neko is said to be a calico Japanese Bobtail cat. • Maryland’s State Cat The calico became the official cat of Maryland in October of 2001. It was chosen because its orange, black and white colors are shared with the state bird (Baltimore oriole) as well as the state insect (Baltimore Checkerspot butterfly). • Famous Calico Cats One of the most well-known celebrity kitties is a calico named Pudge. This Instagram feline favorite (@Pudgethecat) currently has 670.8k followers. In the late nineteenth century, a children’s poem by Eugene Field was titled “The Duel” but was also known as “The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat.” • Got Warts? Get a Calico! According to Irish folklore, you can get rid of a wart by rubbing it against the tail of a calico cat – but only in the month of May! Crazy, huh? If you have a calico and a wart, you could always try it to see if it works. MEET LAUREL This gorgeous little lady has a super sweet temperament, and she likes to cuddle and purr. She is extremely personable and loves to play (the feathered wand toy is one of her favorites). She also enjoys sitting on the cat tree and looking out at the world, so a room with a view would be perfect for her.
