African Alliance of Rhode Island
Description
The African Alliance of Rhode Island (AARI) is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to improving the lives of African living in the state of Rhode Island. The African Alliance of Rhode Island promotes unity within the African Communities in Rhode Island, advocates for the rights of Africans in RI, and educates the American public about Africa, while elevating the profile of the continent and facilitating linkages between Americans and Africans.
AARI was established formally in 2004 and is governed by an 11 member volunteer Board of Directors. AARI seeks to promote and celebrate the African culture while tackling the challenges facing the African communities in Rhode Island. AARI works with the state, city agencies and existing organizations within the communities.
For many years, Rhode Island has been home to many from the continent of Africa. Today, there are over 75 thousands Africans from 40 African countries living in Rhode Island.
