We met this young man 2 years ago at the 2nd annual Western States Racer Expo. At 13 you would have thought he was 23 the way he carried himself. As pleasurable as he is in person, he is just as amazing to watch on the track. Follow him as he makes his way up the ladder of his dreams. We are proud of all the young drivers who have made their way through our expos over the years.

To answer questions regarding the cancellation of WSRE2018... WSRE is working on many new and exciting things to improve and revitalize the expo. In short the answer is simple. WSRE is dedicated to the racers, the industry manufactures, and the fans who are all apart of Grassroots Racing. We want to put racers in touch with face to face hand shaking moments with manufactures, as well as touchy feeling times on the parts they manufacture. We also want to ensure that the racers benefit from the seminars given by our guest speakers. All of this comes at a cost to everyone involved. WSRE is and has understood this and has and is willing to assume losses if it benefits the racers, parts manufactures, and fans. However, at the time we made the decision WSRE sadly could not guarantee this years expo would be a benefit and felt it would be unfair to racers to assume an expense that didn’t show viable return. We had great speakers lined up, many returning from previous years. We had some manufactures arriving to share their parts, again many returning guest. But in the end the cost to the racers, the manufactures, and WSRE did not coincide with our core value of helping and growing West Coast racing. Please everyone make sure to know WSRE is not giving up or going away. We are doing our best to re-schedule the 2018 expo and working on bettering the program for 2019. What we are looking for is suggestions and comments that help us help you the racers. Is location an issue, is there a specific company you would like to see present, is there a topic we have missed over the years that you would like to learn more on? We are open to discussion, comments, and criticism. Those are the items that will help our sport grow. Our intent is to bring an Industry Expo to the West Coast to provide racers a platform to meet and manufactures and learn from leading experts in the world of auto racing. Our plan is to continue on with this mission for many years into the future. -WSRE Mangement Team

One of the hardest decisions WSRE management had to make was with in regards to our 2018 show. We have had tremendous feedback following our announcement of cancelling the show. It took a lot of decisive planning before making that decision and the care for racers and exhibitors were at the forefront of that decision. The last thing we would hate to have happen is to have racers show up at the fairplex of pomona in a week and be disappointed the expo isn't there. We are reaching out to everyone to please help spread the word to friends, family, and fellow racers. With regards to WSRE and its future. We have had a huge amount of inquires if the expo is gone for good. Please note that our answer at this time is absolutely not!! The great things about modern technology is how quickly communication can be relayed. The number one comment to us was "Please do not give up and go away". WSRE is currently working on planning the next event. With the feedback we have gotten management is even looking at the possibility of having our 2018 show later this year. There are many items that go into making these decisions and please know WSRE will not go quietly into the night. We are here for racers and west coast grass roots racing. Continue to check in for all the latest news. Thank you WSRE Management

Feedback from racers the past couple weeks tells us that there IS a need for WSRE. We WILL reschedule, but need input from those interested. PM, comment here, or call. Here is what we need to know: Is venue a factor when choosing to attend? Are you most interested in meeting and speaking to manufacturers and suppliers face to face, OR the educational seminars and demos? Racer Radio

*** IMMEDIATE RELEASE *** CANCELLATION OF WSRE 2018 EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY January 23, 2018 2016 marked the launch of The Western States Racer Expo. The strategic short track racing industry annual educational tech event designed built and implemented by Shelly Wooldridge and her WSRE management team partners. Western States Racer Expo was founded by a team of grassroots racers with over 150 years of combined experience in the industry. From engine building, chassis design and set up, trackside support and team management to track officiating. Our goal with Race Prep 101 is to educate and coach the dedicated racer to be the best competitor possible. We have brought together some of race industry's best experts to share their knowledge. Western States Racer Expo brings manufacturers to the racers to showcase products, assist with technical questions and most of all to give the racers the opportunity to form the relationships necessary for a strong working relationship with suppliers and manufacturers. In addition to the mission statement, WSRE is and will always be committed to putting on the best expo possible each year for its attendees and all involved. If ever this quality of expo cannot be provided WSRE will not jeopardize its integrity with a lackluster event. After a fast-paced growth and success in the last 2 years WSRE has stepped up the program at a considerable cost for year #3 to include the New venue at the Fairplex in Pomona, CA along with the addition of several other components focusing on a mindset of building the expo to be the single most important weekend event for industry company vendors and racers alike. Providing the access to the racer at any experience level where he or she can gather needed tech info and first-hand experience from industry veterans who hold the cards of knowledge. For the vendors of parts, product, & service the expo provides the handshake face up bond where industry touches its consumer the racer & team. Currently, the WSRE management team finds itself at a crossroads. In addition to the mission of WSRE, we have structured goals that we expect of ourselves in growing the expo annually. In the first 2 years, we have met and exceeded those realistic goals. Since the 2017 expo we have experienced a change in energy and more so a lack of any increasing energy that has created the mentioned crossroads. Everyone who has participated in the past expos as an attendee or vendor we do what we do because of you. In simplest terms "YOU get it and have the vision". We remain encouraged and assured of the mission due to your choice to be involved. After many hours of discussion and decision making at the end of the day this expo is still a business. While the expo structured business plan was equipped to operate at a loss (if needed) in years 1 and 2 this is not a venture that can be expected to sustain and grow with another year of potential losses. At this time decisions of staying the course could be made if the positive energy of growth was in place and promising. Unfortunately, that is not the case. No event like the expo can exist, grow, and thrive with a lack of participation. WSRE fully understands the tough financial world we are all navigating together. We also know that the "let’s wait & see and maybe next year mindset" marketing plan for industry companies who have made the decision not to participate guarantees one thing. A guarantee that grassroots short track racing will remain on life support and evolve to extinction resulting in little to no need for their product and services. What attracts the racers & teams of every experience level are those companies of industry products & services along with track promoters owners investing a weekend in showing their consumer how important they are in a more effective and tangible atmosphere away from the stress of the race track. Therefore WSRE is announcing this EXPO 2018 cancelation and hiatus status effective IMMEDIATELY. All deposits for vendor space and attendees will be processed and returned within 30 days or less. WSRE needs to name these vital people and supporters who have supported and shared in two years of EXPO success. Mark Godfrey of Wayne’s Engine Rebuilding, Alton Mc Bride, Jr, Dave Stall, and Michele Spencer of Racer Radio. The WSRE management team will not sit idle. Beginning this week we will shift gears into other areas of short track racing preservation where we have opportunities to focus our time and energy with notable national short track veterans who share the same vision and feeling of urgency for our sport and its survival. Ironically today it further validates the decision of WSRE when you read the announcement of speculation of the potential sale of National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing in the effort to right the path of the derailed professional stock car industry. For the expo, we choose this holding pattern now while we have had growth and the great results of 2017. "Like a prize fighter, the best time to stop fighting is coming off your win". So for now we will do exactly that in the effort to shelve and preserve the expo until a time that industry companies, racers, promoters and all involved show a desire and enthusiasm where we feel we can build on that energy and achieve further goals in the ultimate effort which is to revitalize and preserve America's grassroots short track racing.
