Yeah, Gaea! #Repost @humansoftheberkshires ・・・ "I think the world needs more kindness and open heartedness, because it’s a big place and there’s a lot of different types people. You shouldn’t judge them, and it’s especially important right now because a lot of people think that they’re better than or think that they can judge other people because they have certain aspects of their identity that are different. It’s not okay. Everyone should be more compassionate and understanding of people’s differences. Think about someone else’s experience, and how that made them into who they are today, and how everyone’s life is different. You can’t form opinions based on just what you see, without knowing what someone’s been through. Everyone has different experiences that shape who they are. We need to be more kind and not fear those who are different from us, because diversity helps us grow. In a diverse community people can learn about different viewpoints and opinions that they couldn’t see surrounded by people with the same mindset as them." A hit since debuting on Broadway in 1936, "You Can’t Take It With You" tells the story of the eccentric Sycamore family, which marches to the beat of its own drum, complete with hobbies that include collecting snakes and building fireworks. Then, practical Alice Sycamore becomes engaged to buttoned-down executive Tony Kirby Jr., and the Kirby family visits the Sycamores at a most inopportune time. Before the night is over, all are arrested and the engagement off—at least until Grandpa Vanderhof dispenses some keen wisdom. This MHS production stars Jayme McGuigan ’18 as Martin Vanderhof/Grandpa, Jasmine Briggs ’19 as Alice, and Emily Carmel ’20 and Trudy Fadding ’19 as Alice’s parents, Penelope and Paul Sycamore. Guest actor Matthew Gallagher plays Tony Kirby, while Gabby Hinkley ’18 and Miriam Myers ’18 play Tony’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kirby. The show features Hannah Holt ’21 as Alice’s sister, Essie; Rose Battista ’19 as Essie’s husband, Ed Carmichel; Ainsley Schuth ’19 as Boris Kolenkhov, Essie’s eccentric ballet teacher; and Ivy Wang ’19 as Paul Sycamore’s assistant, Mr. De Pinna. Additional performers include Sam Elliott ’19 as a “J-man” and Wilbur Henderson, the IRS investigator; Judy Li ’18 as Rheba, the maid; Erica Morales-Armstrong ’20 as Donald, Rheba’s boyfriend; Michela Laurin ’18 as actress Gay Wellington; Alicia Bravo ’18 as the Grand Duchess Olga Katrina; and Z Hypolite ’19 and Ingrid O’Dell ’19 as J-Men. The technical crew includes Olivia Kinne ’18 and Ingrid O’Dell ’19 as Stage Managers; Lomesia Allen ’20, Faia Kronick ’19, and Soleil Laurin ’20 as Costume Assistants; and Mere Hall ’20 as Prop Assistant. The show is directed by Jennifer Jordan, Director of Theater and Dance at Miss Hall’s School.
