A makeshift memorial rests outside of the U.S. Coast Guard Station Channel Islands to remember those aboard the Conception, a dive boat involved in a tragic incident at Santa Cruz Island yesterday. Our deepest condolences to all those impacted by this horrific incident. ❤️
Photos from Channel Islands Harbor's post
This morning Ventura County Harbor Patrol transported the Ventura County Fire Department on Boat 15, a vessel both agencies share, to respond to a boat fire near Santa Cruz Island. According to reports, there were 39 people aboard Conception, a 75-foot dive boat based out of Santa Barbara Harbor. Five people, all crew members, were rescued by “Grape Escape,” a good Samaritan vessel. Multiple agencies, led by the U.S. Coast Guard, also responded to the incident and a search and rescue effort for the remaining people aboard is underway. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the first responders and the people aboard the Conception, their families, and the Santa Barbara Harbor community.
