REDUCTION IN PUBLIC PARKING ON THE OCEANFRONT AT THE END OF SEA MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY TO OCCUR MAY 25 Since May of 2002, the City has leased a parcel of land at the end of Sea Mountain Highway for an oceanfront public parking lot. People who have become accustomed to parking for free in this lot should be aware that the private landowner has cancelled their lease with the City effective May 25. That means that as of May 25 the lot can no longer be used for free public parking. The accompanying photo shows an aerial view of the leased private property outlined in red. The small area outlined in gold or yellow is City-owned property and will still be used for free public parking. The parking area to the right of the City-owned property is privately owned property.

NMB PARK & SPORTS COMPLEX NAMED A "2017 TOP MULTI-USE SPORTS FACILITY" BY SPORTS EVENTS MAGAZINE The North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex has been named a "2017 Top Multi-Use Sports Facility" by SportsEvents Magazine. After receiving many nominations from sports events planners from across the country, the magazine's editors compiled a Facebook ballot with a list of 31 facilities that exceed expectations and offer athletes and spectators a memorable athletic experience. With a record-breaking number of over 174,000 people reached and over 9,000 votes tallied, SportsEvents readers and Facebook fans picked their top facilities to be featured in SportsEvents Magazine. A complete list of the 31 facilities nominated by Sports Events editors can be found on SportsEvent’s Facebook page. “Sports events planners find multi-use sports facilities to be a top choice for their events,” said SportsEvents Magazine’s Managing Editor Sherri Middleton. “Multi-use complexes and facilities not only provide a range of fields and courts to host a variety of sports, but many facilities also take it a step further by offering everything a planner could need from a friendly and accommodating staff to upgraded state-of-the-art amenities and more.” The following list of 10 facilities gained the top votes. MISSION BBQ DONATES $2,039 TO NMB "SHOP WITH A COP" PROGRAM Mission BBQ in North Myrtle Beach recently donated $2,039 to the North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Department’s “Shop With a Cop” program. Each Christmas, the program provides gifts and a luncheon for children in need, who are identified by North Myrtle Beach area school counselors. Each child is treated to lunch and receives a $100 Walmart gift card. North Myrtle Beach Public Safety personnel and community volunteers accompany the children to the store on a shopping trip to help them buy presents for themselves and family, and a winter coat if they need one. “We greatly appreciate this donation,” said North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Director Jay Fernandez. “It will certainly make Christmas a very special time for these children, who otherwise would just have to do without.” Shown left to right in the accompanying photo are: Sergeant Michael Bienkoski, Melanie Cheang, Police Chief Phil Webster, Lieutenant Sean Downey, Public Safety Director Jay Fernandez, Jan Tolonese.
